I thought I would take the plunge and start early the 2015 T/W/DC/A 10+/11+ thread that has become an annual staple MN!

This thread has been inspired by the likes of (among others) Ladymuck, Seeline, SoupDragon et al, who have been an amazing resources to people like me in previous years' threads.

Although T & W tend to dominate, I have also included DC and Alleyns as I know a lot of parents these days have DC's sitting for some/all of them.

I hope this thread will continue in the spirit of previous years' thread, with the support, hand-holding and knowledge that has been the hallmark of MN generally but this thread in particular.

Let the fun begin....

Would be nice to know how many T interview as you say Cloe489. W a lot more open about that as said to DS they hope to interview most candidates so felt pretty hopeful all along.

InASchoolsDilemma · 15/01/2015 11:39

We have a T interview Cloe. We had a call on Tuesday.

We don't have notification of a sports assessment though, even though we put in for it.

dunesandy · 15/01/2015 12:21

BitbyBit nothing in the post. No calls. Aaaaah!

olguis · 15/01/2015 12:29

InASchoolsDilemma is it for T 11+ or 10+? I remain hopeful, and I also think schools start to move quicker with 11+ rather than 10+.

InASchoolsDilemma · 15/01/2015 12:31

We're 11+.

olguis · 15/01/2015 12:53

thanks, confirms my optimistic theory. I just got a letter from W inviting for the audition - and they emailed me Tuesday morning. Does it normally take 3 days for a letter to arrive?
What a dreadful condition - waiting for 'thanks but no thanks' letter NOT to arrive and calculating past which day it is definitely not arriving...

Jaan100 · 15/01/2015 13:40

We got a no thanks letter today from T- 11+ :(

neanananaweek1972 · 15/01/2015 13:47

Sorry Jaan100. Dreading seeing the envelope on the mat.

Cloe489 · 15/01/2015 13:48

Sorry to hear Jaan100. No letter or call for us still....the wait continues.

omnishambles · 15/01/2015 13:49

oh no Jaan so sorry.

We just had a call for a T music assessment so they have started doing that.

mum3074 · 15/01/2015 14:13

What a stressful wait! So sorry to hear about the "no" letters... We are still waiting to hear from T & W. W on the phone said that they are still sending & will be sending interview letters next week. Also they mentioned that over 1000 boys sat the test! That number shocked me! Even if that includes all years (10+, 11+ and 13+) it is a massive number - no wonder it take a while to work through. Is it fairly standard number or more than previous years?

BitByBit · 15/01/2015 14:15

So sorry to hear Jaan. Am Dreading asking my DH about the post and hoping if a letter arrives my DS doesn't open it himself...... Am also hoping W are dealing with 11+ first and that no news is because they haven't got around to 10+ yet.

Liquorice12 · 15/01/2015 15:43

Yes sorry to hear that Jaan100.

burntoutdad · 15/01/2015 16:24

Bit - there is no particular order for 10 or 11+. Ds1 has seen both age groups being shown around at the moment. The sports assessment letters would have been to 10+ and 11+ too.

Liquorice12 · 15/01/2015 17:01

mum3074 - When picked DS up after 11+ at Whitgift, a member of staff I talked to said exam applicants were consistent with previous years. As said in a previous post there were apparently about 560 that sat the 11+. Don't know how many for 10+ or 13+.

Ladymuck · 15/01/2015 17:18

Don't forget that there is also 12+ and 14+ and the reserve dates too. That said I'm not sure that the pure numbers help you unless you know the number of bursary candidates. The cut-off for interviews seemed much higher for the bursary candidates, understandably as there are fewer places.

It is hard to keep your nerve when you hear of others getting calls and letters, but I really do hope that you can look back on the similar threads from past years and reassure yourselves, that however tortuous, to have heard nothing at this stage is normal.

mum3074 · 15/01/2015 17:21

Thanks for specifying the number for 11+, Liquorice12, - 560 - still a lot for 120-140 places, only every 4th or 5th boy gets the place...

Ladymuck · 15/01/2015 17:25

"560 - still a lot for 120-140 places, only every 4th or 5th boy gets the place..."

But many of the boys will have also sat Trinity, Dulwich, Reigate and even further afield. Many will have sat and passed the grammars, and some are looking for bursaries (and there's at most around 30 of those on offer). 100 places will usually mean well over 200 offers get sent out.

mum3074 · 15/01/2015 17:34

Yes, Ladymuck, that is true, the number of boys will spread in several schools, of course; we are also in that "many" bunch :)) passed couple of grammars and sat T also. This stressful period of sitting exams & wating has been ongoing for a few months (starting from Grammars) and it makes you more panicky than usual...

Liquorice12 · 15/01/2015 17:40

Well done omnishambles for music assessment for T. Does that mean your DS automatically gets a normal interview?

omnishambles · 15/01/2015 18:16

I hope so but the music lady didnt know. We will have to wait and see. DS os over the moon as we're not one of those sitting on grammar or other school places, this is the basket almost all of our eggs are in.

Firefox1066 · 15/01/2015 18:19

Excellent news Omni! I'm sure that if you have a music assement then you at called for interview (or else why bother?)

Another day passes for us with no letter or call from with T or W. I guess if we don't receive a "thanks but no thanks" letter from T by say Monday or Tuesday then it's safe to assume that an interview call is coming.

As they say, "it's the hope that kills you"

BitByBit · 15/01/2015 19:49

Dunesandy- Just checked- no letter, no call for us today either( W10+.)

Thanks Burntout - regarding the fact there is no clear order of calls/ letters. No news is at least not bad news.

omnishambles · 15/01/2015 19:57

Yes, am wondering if it would be ethical to keep him off the day before to practice...

Good luck all for tomorrow...

dunesandy · 15/01/2015 20:47

Bitbybit agonising isn't it.! Will give you update tomorrow and despite all the posts you can't help but think the worse. Any other 10+ W out there??
