I thought I would take the plunge and start early the 2015 T/W/DC/A 10+/11+ thread that has become an annual staple MN!

This thread has been inspired by the likes of (among others) Ladymuck, Seeline, SoupDragon et al, who have been an amazing resources to people like me in previous years' threads.

Although T & W tend to dominate, I have also included DC and Alleyns as I know a lot of parents these days have DC's sitting for some/all of them.

I hope this thread will continue in the spirit of previous years' thread, with the support, hand-holding and knowledge that has been the hallmark of MN generally but this thread in particular.

Let the fun begin....

Just back from W. Interviews started today. Nice parents/boys and teachers. All 11+ candidates that I met.

omnishambles · 14/01/2015 14:13

Am dreading a letter on Friday or Saturday from T. After all the grammar stuff I don't know if ds or I can take it. It is so hard to hold your head up when everyone else has passed various exams and schools.

BitByBit · 14/01/2015 14:15

Thanks Dunesandy and serendipity. That is reassuring. Will be interesting to see if there is any order to how they are called/not called to interview.

Jaan100 · 14/01/2015 14:43

BitByBit- we are 11+

citymum3 · 14/01/2015 14:50

Omnishambles stay strongBrew

omnishambles · 14/01/2015 14:55

Thanks Citymum - will try Smile

Daisytea · 14/01/2015 15:01

Try not to worry omnishambles I know its very hard and a very stressful few weeks.

I did T last year 11+ and interviews were called for a couple of weeks so there is ages to go yet. Last year it seemed those applying for scholarships were invited first presumably so other departments can organise their auditions/trials.

Letters came out thursday / friday last year.

Fingers crossed that you get a call.

DD took Alleyn's yesterday and said it was harder than the JAGS exam. She found the VR paper especially challenging. She took Putney High today and said it was OK.

Liquorice12 · 14/01/2015 16:01

In the same boat as you omnishambles so I sympathise completely. Had two wrong numbers today just to make it worse! Just had W interview and was v.impressed with school and the way they handled it. V. relaxed. Some maths and English questions and general chat for DS.

neanananaweek1972 · 14/01/2015 17:02

Nothing from Trinity here! Keep hoping I'll come in and see the light blinking on my answer machine!! Am hoping it all takes time to get round to people......

burntoutdad · 14/01/2015 17:32

Ds has sports assessment on Monday but no interview as yet. I recall the same happened previously where interviews followed the week after.

merlottime · 14/01/2015 18:45

Seeline Well done to your DD. Its a relief to have an offer. I am very very tempted to go with Woldingham even if we get RR; i wasnt a fan of all girls but the more i think about it the more i think it would be good. just need to reconcile myself to the additional ££!

Fossie · 14/01/2015 21:11

If T are sending the 'thanks but no thanks' letters tomorrow, have they concentrated on marking the weaker papers to clear them first? It seems strange there are so few T interviews known about here on FB. Or are people being coy about hearing from T? Does anyone know if we do not get that 'no thanks'letter this week then we will be interviewed at some point however distant in the future?

Ladymuck · 14/01/2015 22:05

T only started phoning yesterday I believe, whereas W started on Saturday. We certainly didn't get a call for interview until after the no letters got sent.

I know it seems barbaric but there is a chance that you will not hear for at least another week for T, and maybe even longer for W.

AnotherNewt · 14/01/2015 22:14

Alleyns expect to interview about 300 for its 175 places his year (not sure if those coming up from the junior school are interviews along with the other candidates). They'll be ringing next week (and possibly week after) to arrange interview times (though IIRC, parents don't really have any choice unless it's pretty exceptional circumstances).

Close to 700 sat the exam this year (not really much different from Emanuel, who close their list at 650, reaching that number by last July - just to terrify anyone reading ahead for next year).

Anyone know how many sat for Dulwich this year?

Ladymuck · 14/01/2015 22:42

Junior school pupils are only interviewed if they are in the running for a scholarship. Is it really 175 places at 11+? That seems like a huge increase from last year, though my memory may be failing.

Ladymuck · 14/01/2015 22:45

Oh and Emanuel's numbers aren't that scary. It has always been a back-up school and wastes a huge amount of effort in marking and interviewing children who have it as their insurance offer. It's the equivalent of the Sutton grammars putting in a two part test to whittle down the number of papers that need to be marked. In this instance Emanuel are presuming that the parents who actually want the school will be focussed enough to register early.

AnotherNewt · 14/01/2015 22:46

You're right, Ladymuck. I misread the card. 135 places. Sorry, everyone.

AnotherNewt · 14/01/2015 22:50

Emanuel is first choice school an increasing number. It's only fairly recently that it's needed to actually close its list (the maximum number never used to be reached). This is the first year that it reached 650 before schools broke up for the summer.

Balhamite1 · 14/01/2015 23:13

How many offers are Alleyns likely to make this year for those 135 places?

bitsbots · 14/01/2015 23:34

AnotherNewt: around 400 sat for Dulwich this year - I overheard from a staff on the exam day

Daisytea · 15/01/2015 07:51

Fossie - did you get a letter this year when you went in for the T exam?

Last year it said all the 'no' letters would be out this week and then interviews would take place for next couple weeks (or something along those lines). So if you don't get a letter then its presumably good news and just a waiting game for the phone call.

We didn't hear until after the letters had gone out.

basildonbond · 15/01/2015 07:55

Only 130 places at 11+ for Alleyn's and a third of those are from the junior school. There were definitely junior school candidates at the scholarship interviews but I don't know if they have standard interviews as well

Cloe489 · 15/01/2015 08:59

olgius, I think I saw earlier post that someone knew boys who were having interviews with Trinity on Friday. So people have started to hear back from T, but just no one on this board yet. Including me! :(
As for DC college, when my DS went for his interview I asked the headmaster and he said they had over 450 sit this exam this year.

Cloe489 · 15/01/2015 09:00

Does anyone know how many T interviews for how many places?
