I thought I would take the plunge and start early the 2015 T/W/DC/A 10+/11+ thread that has become an annual staple MN!

This thread has been inspired by the likes of (among others) Ladymuck, Seeline, SoupDragon et al, who have been an amazing resources to people like me in previous years' threads.

Although T & W tend to dominate, I have also included DC and Alleyns as I know a lot of parents these days have DC's sitting for some/all of them.

I hope this thread will continue in the spirit of previous years' thread, with the support, hand-holding and knowledge that has been the hallmark of MN generally but this thread in particular.

Let the fun begin....

We have now accepted T at 11+ for September though haven't received any info from the school. Does anyone know if there are similar induction days at T in the summer holidays?

Seeline · 27/02/2015 12:55

Fossie - the induction day at T always used to be just before they went back in September. there is usually a New Boys and Parents day on a Saturday near the end of June too. I'm sure they'll send details soon. Smile

omnishambles · 27/02/2015 14:57

Its the weekend of the 20th I think that's what they said at T on the phone.

neanananaweek1972 · 27/02/2015 15:32

Anyone on the T tour this morning?

Fossie · 27/02/2015 16:06

Thanks Seeline. Sod's law; the post (with letter from T) arrived the moment I last hit post.

Firefox1066 · 27/02/2015 16:59

BitbyBit the dates for W 10+ cohort are as follows:

June 2015 - New Parents' Evening
25-27 August 2015 - Pupil Induction Course (not compulsory but recommended)
28th August 2015 - Induction Afternoon (compulsory)
1st September - Start of Term
5th - 12th September - Lake Garda trip

There's also a school uniform appointment that will need to be made in March/April I believe and a uniform sale around that time also.

Hope that helps

neananana I did the T tour this morning.

neanananaweek1972 · 27/02/2015 17:59

inaschools, what did you think? Are you still in a dilemma?Wink
We really liked it (again)!

InASchoolsDilemma · 27/02/2015 18:06

No longer in a dilemma Smile It'll be T for DS.

InASchoolsDilemma · 02/03/2015 11:11

Although that's only half the dilemma, the private school side of things. The grammar school results are out today, and that may affect things if DS gets his first choice.

Firefox1066 · 02/03/2015 11:26

Good luck to you Inaschoolsdilemma and all those waiting in Grammars today!

wonder if anyone can help. Our train would get into East Croydon at 7.58am; would that give DS enough time to bus to Trinity? That's if the trains are on time! Thanks

Seeline · 02/03/2015 12:56

My DSs train gets to E Croydon at 8.02 and he gets there on time, although little to spare. There are several different buses that they can get from E Croydon, and the tram if they don't mind walking from Sandilands stop.
If DS has a before school activity (he often has a choir practice at 8.10) I normally drive him in as he would have to leave home much earlier.

neanananaweek1972 · 02/03/2015 13:02

Thank you Seeline! I assume there are lots of buses at that time in the morning so would be ok.

Firefox1066 · 02/03/2015 13:03

I have a DN at T who is a chorister and often has to be at school for just after 8. I think you're times are cutting it a bit fine neana.... I'd probably get the train before if I were you

Seeline · 02/03/2015 14:59

firefox - DS has never been late catching that train. He meets up with lots of other boys on the same train too. As I said, if he has to be in for something early I would drive him (to be fair I can drive it in 15 mins, it takes about 1 hour door to door using public transport).
neana - yes lots of buses. I think they can use 4 different routes, and they run frequently at that time.

Ladymuck · 02/03/2015 18:00

Grammar results seem to be online for the 11+ crew.

VivienneWestwood · 02/03/2015 18:25

We got Wilson's, together with scholarships at T, DC and another Indy. One last conversation to be had tonight but pretty sure we are going for DC. What a journey - very proud of DS and looking forward to September!

InASchoolsDilemma · 02/03/2015 18:35

DS got Wilson's too - his first choice grammar. We also have three indies with scholarships to choose from. Lots of choices to be mulled over.

Firefox1066 · 02/03/2015 20:54

Congrats vivwestood and inaschools some really tough choices for both of you!!

Vik123 · 03/03/2015 09:48

Grammar results came. DS got wilsons too. But we decided to send him to w. He was given generous scholarship. Very pleased

citymum3 · 03/03/2015 11:14

We got 2nd choice state school, which for complicated reasons due to the system here was more of a punt than a positive choice. We accepted DC this morning. So excited for DS. Good luck to those still deciding.

dunesandy · 03/03/2015 19:29

Are any of the 10+ Whitgift out there going to do the induction days? We have something booked but not impossible to rearrange. Just wondered if there's any advice to be had. Thanks!

Firefox1066 · 03/03/2015 20:37

DS will be going to all of the induction days dunesandy... By all accounts the boys have a good time and it gives them a good chance to bond

For those who didn't get a place or scholarship just think that not every successful person on the planet has been to a grammar school or private school - in fact those who have not are even more driven to succeed in life and hence are more stronger as a result of it in the big wide world.
