What have I let myself in for? Somehow seem to have got myself on the PTA committee!

How exactly did this happen?

ds has only been at the school for a month....
I don't really know what the PTA does....
I don't really know many of the other parents (work full time, ds didn't go to the school's attached nursery, haven't got any older children, etc)....

But.... there was a distinct lack of volunteers, and as the PTA treasurer happens to be my neighbour I somehow managed to find myself volunteering.

So what am I going to be expected to do? Anyone care to share their experiences/suggestions with me please?

The PTA you'll be involved in fund raising for the school, discos for the kids, suggestions on what money can be spent on etc.

I kind of got that bit - but what is being on the committee, rather than just being roped in to help with events, going to mean? Like - how much time and commitment?

They usually have meeting every now and again, don't offer to minute the meeting. Schools vary on how often they meet.

You and me both! My best friend has just volunteered as the Secretary, because there's no Chairman she's getting all of that too, I offered to help her and now I'm on the committee as well. That was Thursday, and since then I've had almost daily phone calls and being nabbed at the school gates, a one hour meeting this morning, I've got 40 fairy cakes to make this weekend, going to the cash and carry on Wednesday morning, and spending the afternoon at school, oh and I've got to write some raffle prize letters to about 20 companies today.

Why is that I just cannot say 'no' when people ask for help? I see lots of others, folded arms and no-one volunteering, so I feel cross and think 'oh for goodness sake, someone's got to help' and then I go for it. But within a minute of opening my mouth, I start to regret it!!!!
