Ds aged 6 in year 2 keeps complaining of his teacher's asssistant picking on him.
He said that if everyone is talking his name is the only name called out by her and he was made to stand against the wall in the playground for talking to a few friends over in the junior school playground fence.
The thing that has really got my goat is that she has stopped him from having jacket potatoe for dinner just because he doesn't eat the skin !!!! He doesn't eat the skin at home but he always without fail eats the potatoe inside. She has also told him off about the way he wears his tie, he likes his tie short and fat (bit like the way the older school boys wear theirs) she started on him about that yesterday which I found out through his best friend and not my son. There are no rules on how a tie should be worn at his school as long as he is wearing one.
He seems a little distressed about it and to be honest I know my son is one of the noisy ones but he is a hard worker and I think the jacket potatoe thing is a little mean on her part. I know that 6 year olds can exaggerate but everyday this week he is complaining of her. I am not one to fly down to the school and have it out with her,.....yet....., I want all the facts.
Now, do I watch to see what else is going on keep a quiet note of all episodes, or do I speak to her now and try and sort out the situation especially the potatoe thing or do I do nothing.
Any opinions would be greatful as I am quietly getting annoyed with this woman.

Round one of potato wars to Moosh.I'm pleased you got it sorted out.

Blimey, since when was it part of a TAs job to forcefeed kids or choose their food? Bizarre. What a weirdo.

SSSandy · 25/09/2006 20:39

I would have gone in guns blazing if any of that happnened to my 6 year old. If the school has no rules about how ties should be worn, I would not accept her telling ds off about it.

I would object to someone above her about her singling ds out for punishment when other kids are involved (if this is really the case). That's inacceptable.

I would have been furious at ds not being allowed jacket potatoes because he doesn't eat the skin (?!?)

TBH I wouldn't put up with any of it. She sounds like a nutcase. Sounds like she just does not like ds which I suppose she doesn't have to but this is ridiculous. Think you were extremely reserved. Hope everything turns around now

Well done for being so restrained! If the being made to face the wall incident did happen, i also wouldn't be very happy. He was only talking to some juniors ffs!

I would listen to ds and if any more incidents are mentioned would bring it up at parents eve.

moosh · 26/09/2006 13:10

The junior school incident carried on from last term too. When he was in Yr1, he used to play with boys in Yr2 in the same playground and she would tell him not to play with them and play with boys in his own class and of his own age !!!
He has got friends in his own class but surely socially it is good for him to have friends in both reception and Yr2 at the time.
I asked him to ask her politely if he could play with them as they were his friends. He did and she let him. But why say that sort of thing in the first place. Yes me thinks she is a weirdo.

She sounds very controlling. What is the problem with different year groups playing together?

sugarfree · 26/09/2006 14:46

Dear god,she does have some 'control' issues doesn't she?

mell2 · 26/09/2006 14:50

Ds was in mixed year groups up until year 4. He was in mixed year 2/3. That would really get her into a tizz wouldn't it, infants and juniors mixed together!

SSSandy · 27/09/2006 09:21

Think she has the wrong job

I think that the potato skin is now well and truly rotted down! Have a look at the date on this thread!
