Six weeks School Holidays way too long.

Six Weeks School Holidays is too long to be off School.

I have to say its been lovely this year. We've had 1 week away and now at my parents for a week. Dd has gone off with her dad to a cricket festival for 4 days which she really needs for a change.

I've wangled the week after bank holiday off as an extra which we're planning to use to catch up with some old friends. The 6 weeks off packed lunches and being in 3 different places every evening has been great!

I am very lucky to have DH's mum who has had them on all the other days when I've worked. She leaves the older 2 at our house and just entertains Ds2, unless the others want her for anything.

Oh and Ds1 is gifted, and he's spent the holidays working out how to play Xbox with his wrist in a cast :)

The one year I was off for the entirety of the summer holidays due to redundancy felt like a privilege. (Mind you, I had a job to step into at the end of it all so no financial woes). I loved spending time with my DDs.

They need the break to recharge their batteries and rev up for a year of new challenges, and as a parent there's a lot you can do to keep their brains ticking over - none of it involving school work.

BTW my DDs are both considered gifted too.

OP your child is a prodigy. The rest of us only have very stupid children so all we have to do to keep them entertained is bung them a couple of fir cones and they will play for hours. Schools should be open 24/7 so that the lazy teachers can educate your child, what are they there for after all ? You need your me time, not having to entertain your incredibly talented and amazing child

We only get 5 weeks :( I wish we got 10.

I would prefer that they knocked off two weeks and stuck them onto Easter and Christmas hols so they were three weeks each. Six weeks seems unnecessarily long to me now. However, I loved the summer being six weeks as a child and I'm sure my DC like it the way it is.

Not if you work in a school, it isn't!
