Does anyone else have a child doing 11+ in January? How are you approaching it? Private coaching? Working at home in the holidays? Or do you think they should just take it in their stride with no extra work at all? I thought/hoped I was going to be in the last category, but as it gets closer I get panic-ier. Any thoughts/opinions?

I'm not sure that level 3 at KS1 sats is an indication of grammar school material unless you're in an area that has a lot of grammar schools. At our junior school about 20 out of 60 new yr 3's have level 3 - but there's nothing like that proportion of grammar school places.

re, level 3 sats, i was just going on my 11 yo, thats what he got, and he got a place at a grammer. He continued his steady level of learning to get 5's in his y6 sats. I just was thinking along those lines...

Curlew ...

I'm in Belfast - an both my kids have done the 11+ .. ( it's done in November over here )

I truly don't think that my kids needed extra coaching ... but they got it ....

the reason being, the tutor was a lot calmer than me ... and also the kids actually listened to her .... it was all about building their confidence more than preparing them with the fats and the figures ( that was up to the school )

IMO ... do whatever suits you and your kids ...

Thing is there's a lot of difference between a 3c and a 3a

Gordon bennet - 97% pass rate? Is that what it is in all areas? If it is, we're going to give up now, and go for the OK high school. I don't want to put dd in for something she's almost bound to fail. I thought it'd be 75% ish, which is achievable, but 97% is out of the question!
