We just had another prospectus brought home from DD's state primary for QE. The idea is quite appealing but not within our budget. It seems very expensive but mentions possibility of discounts through various bursary's and scholarships. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is the school to be recommended? (middle and high school age)

Agree with ShootingatPigeons evaluation/summary 100%!

I once had occasion to come across a large group of their teenagers (they were about 15) a few years ago. They did have the unfortunate air of being spoilt brats TBH. I wouldn't send my kids there.

rightsaidfrederick · 30/01/2014 16:12

PS that letter Shock

When I left school I got a nice letter from the head wishing me good luck for the future, not offering me legal advice!

soul2000 · 30/01/2014 16:15

It would be "Great" if they would let some kids from the "poorest" parts of Leeds have a go at "Equestrian Events" free of charge, after all they are a "Charity".

Right said. All kids at "Public Schools" are spoilt Brats ( With the exception of a few Armed Forces kids).....

Legal Advice .... What for "Being Drunk in charge of a Sports Car and travelling at 130 on a 50 MPH Road.......

TunipTheUnconquerable · 30/01/2014 16:21

Thinking about it, I do actually find that letter very touching.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 30/01/2014 16:22

It's something the headmistress of St Trinians would do, and she's very caring.

TalkinPeace · 30/01/2014 18:21

surely the up to date colour version ....

I live in the south of England, but regularly receive marketing nonsense from QE. I have no idea why. I only have a DS.

Can't really take a school that desperate seriously can you, and all the funny stuff in Private Eye makes you wonder.

Just looked at the website, what a laugh. I can't believe people spend thousands to send their kids there. It seems to be all about having a telly in your bedroom and plenty of PS3s (or PS3's as they put it). Apparently they change the sheets on the kids' beds regularly though.

Has anyone on Mumsnet admitted to sending their kids there?

Going back to that letter - I once heard the Head at the school I teach at (comprehensive, not private) tell the whole sixth form that if they needed us (the school) ever again that we would be there for them. It was quite touching - he told them that it didn't matter where in the world they where, they could call. (He didn't offer legal advice!)

page 4 .... aims .... remove contradictory provision .... Grin

rightsaidfrederick · 30/01/2014 20:23

Soul2000 I went to a private school and we were never like that, and I've met plenty of people from schools that were far fancier than the one I was at who were charming.

QE's students were, however, in a league of their own. I was rather thankful I only had to spend half a day with them. Give me a bunch of Scouse comprehensive kids any day!
