The Trinity-Whitgift-South London school 10+/11+ thread of 2014

A few days early I know, but most of the entrance exams will be out of the way in a fortnight or so, and I'm sure there are a number of us who are in need of Brew or Biscuit or Wineas we watch our (still very little) boys forget everything that they may have learned over the last couple of years. And there are many veterans of the process who will hopefully be around to reassure us that we will all come through this unscathed.

I am waiting to hear about sports at W. Anyone heard?

usualsuspect47 · 14/01/2014 18:07

Hello - I'm afraid my son sat W 10+ last Thursday and we have heard nothing. I suspect this is bad news - really hate this whole process. Am now preparing for the worse as I think I would have heard by now.

pooziepuzzle · 14/01/2014 18:11

Wouldn't worry about not hearing from W at this point. It is very early days and they contact people at different times. Interviews get under way tomorrow but they interview for 2 weeks and have many to get round to.

Croydonmumtods · 14/01/2014 18:23

Hello all. Couldn't resist commenting having been through this last year at 10+ and aware how the worrying and second guessing can take over your life! It would appear 11+ take priority over 10+ so possible neither W or T have really started to look at 10+ yet. Last year notified of sports assessments by post with a days notice. W interview was after sports assessment. T interview fairly quick but still a week after exam and W approx 10 days after. Very stressful time as it felt like everyone had heard but me but in the end offers to both. Choose W ds really happy there.

In other words it's still VERY early days. Try not to panic and try not to worry about who has already heard it means nothing. Good luck to all.

suz742 · 14/01/2014 18:25

Last year it took exactly 2 weeks to get the W 10+ interview letter and 6 days to get the Trinity phone call. I've got these etched on my memory as it was a stressful time. Worth it in the end as one happy T boy now.

Hipster1 · 14/01/2014 18:31

Poozie. We chose Trinity and are both unbelievably happy. He has settled so well and loves school. So happy with our decision. As you will all be with yours.

ladydepp · 14/01/2014 18:59

Haven't heard anything about sports at W yet either....interview is this week.

Brownsugar3879 · 14/01/2014 19:06

@ Ladydepp W interview this week, does your Ds have to bring in anything of interest?

pooziepuzzle · 14/01/2014 19:12

We have interview too this week but not planning on taking anything to W

usualsuspect47 · 14/01/2014 19:22

Thanks everyone - I'm finding this website a lifeline at the moment. To be honest I am amazed at my reaction to this process - I'm finding this process so much more stressful than I imagined. It really helps to know I'm not alone!

basildonbond · 14/01/2014 19:28

I've said this before but worth saying again - the timing of the interview call at W has NO bearing on the results ...

Ds sat 10+, his friend had done 11+, surnames at opposite ends of the alphabet. Both got called for interview THREE weeks after the exam, long after we'd all given up hope ... Both got offered scholarships (oh, and neither of them was seen by the head)

Keep calm - and good luck - now waiting for dd's results (argh)

woodcote75 · 14/01/2014 20:03

@Basildonbond- did you apply for a sports scholarship at W? As the sports day is Monday and am thinking if I don't hear about that in the next couple of days then we're out off the game! Thanks

Somelikeithott · 14/01/2014 20:17

Woodcote, DS sat 10+ last year, we had only a day, maybe 2 at the most notice for sports assessment at W. ( but we knew from website that the assessment was going to be that day, letter came in the post). And it clashed with T interview, which we knew about, a week before and we had to postpone T interview at very short notice, literarily the day before ( Typically, DS's recall for sports assessment at W coincided with alternative day for T interview, but luckily DH called before T called us, the lady said she was just about to dial our number, phew....).

I have heard of one 10+ call for interview, but one only...

As everyone has posted it's very early days yet, difficult to find comfort in that, I know, but hang on in there. I'm sure I aged quite bit over that period.

Somelikeithott · 14/01/2014 20:18

10+ call at W, that is

ladydepp · 14/01/2014 22:00

Brownsugar - wasn't planning on taking anything in, they haven't asked us to. Not sure what we'd take.....a small bribe? Wink

LadyMuck · 14/01/2014 22:40

I think it would have to be a fairly substantial bribe to be worthwhile.

And to avoid duplication, ds will be taking his peacock boa to T as part of his DT portfolio, so you'll have to come up with something else.

OP posts:
MotherOfSuburbia · 15/01/2014 06:27

OK LadyMuck... (reluctantly packs away DS' peacock boa)

MrsSteptoe · 15/01/2014 09:20

is it Saturday yet?

LadyMuck · 15/01/2014 09:28

At least Alleyns are clear that we have to wait at least a week. I haven't come across anyone who has heard from T yet, which is unusual.

At least there are no more exams...ds can go back to learning some geography or science or something...

Have received an appointment for a music scholarship audition from W for next week. Presumably that means DS has performed well enough to be considered? Still nothing from T.

SurreyMumSue · 15/01/2014 10:02

Was called yesterday afternoon for interview at T. Straight forward and to the point. 11+, surname start with S.
Nothing from W yet:-(

LadyMuck · 15/01/2014 10:07

Phew, that's good news SurreyMumSue. I was beginning to think that Trinity had taken one look at the batch of papers and just given up on everyone!

I believe that interviews start at T on Friday (but I could just be making that up...)

Good news of the W audition SouthWestmum73. Certainly I would view it as positive news. The interview process does drag out I'm afraid. I am encouraged by those coming back from previous years to remind us all that it appears to be random (probably done by car registration of postcode or some other such random item!).

Have to say that there is a bit of me that prefers the grammar school email approach.

MrsSteptoe · 15/01/2014 10:10

LM No, you're not imagining it: I checked and interviews at T start on 17th, which is Friday.

Teddingtonmum1 · 15/01/2014 10:11

Still waiting for the call , so stressed arghhhh :(
