KS2 - LEVEL 6???

jampot · 28/02/2004 22:30

My daughter is apparently being tutored at school for level 6 at KS2. However, I understand from a website that level 6 extension papers finished last year. Can any of the teachers explain how level 6 can be achieved? Sorry to be ignorant.

Hi Popsycal - today in a last ditch attempt to put the school on the right track (single handedly!) I called our LEA to "enquire". They always take the callers name and school so I explained the situation. I suspect they will now contact the school in this regard. Year 6 teacher hates me already. My daughter had this teacher in year 2 and on at least 3 occasions I had to correct teacher's spelling. Actually that happened also with my son's teacher last year. She was atrocious so when she put a comment in my ds's home/school liaison book and spelt a word wrong (eg.abscent) I'm afraid I couldn't resist drawing . I am a bitch mum from hell!!!!!and also quite stubborn.

When I say I corrected the teacher's spelling it was the spellings for the class to learn!!!!!!!!!

and what did the LEA say about the level 6 tests???

possibly that they don't exist???
lol

jampot · 05/03/2004 19:17

Hi Popsycal - they said......"you can only go to level 5 - level 6 doesn't exist for ks2". However, I went to WHS today to buy a b'day pressie for dd and overheard a woman asking an assistant about ks2 level 6 work books as her son was being tutored for this level.!!!!!!!!! Here's a drink!!!!!!!

popsycal · 05/03/2004 19:31

I think I might ring ITv news and get a broadcast out to the nation....thans for the drink!
I need it today!

popsycal · 08/03/2004 21:41

Jampot - any more news to update?

popsycal · 08/03/2004 22:10

any news?

jampot · 08/03/2004 22:25

Sorry Popsycal - popped on earlier for just 2 minutes. It's dd's birthday today and she's just got home from her extra tuition class. Not really :0 although it is her birthday!

I was in WHS the other day when I overheard a woman asking the assistant for KS2 level 6 workbooks. I edged closer to listen (just the sort of person I am) and the assistant showed her a workbook (for maths only) but told her they only went to level 5!! This woman also maintains her son is being put in for level 6 (don't know what school).

write a letter to the school
this is dreadful
poor kids!

jampot · 08/03/2004 22:42

I would write but the Head is an absolute ar$e. He sent out a letter in January to all volunteer helpers which caused offence amongst those who give their help. A couple of my friends and I went to see him and he referred to us as "the Playground Mafia" and said he would not apologise for sending the letter as he had done no wrong - then the Deputy promptly apologised to all other helpers personally! I was chair of the pta for 3 years during which time I saw a very different side to him. Anyway how was your day in your enormous school?

there are extension tasks but they are optional - all the schools i know are not using them
they are only to aid teacher assessment levels and are not sent off to be externally marked at all

kiwisbird · 06/05/2004 20:12

We have also been told that the Level 6 is not attempted any longer, as my son was lined up for it some time ago. I agree with correcting teachers, one failed my son in a spelling bee as he spelled swop as swap. Both correct
ASSSSSSSSSSS and we are often locking horns, hate people less bright then me teaching my child
LOL on balance have to say his yr 3 and 4 teachers were nothing short of teaching goddesses

popsycal · 06/05/2004 20:16

Seriusly though jampot - what is the current state of affairs?

jampot · 10/05/2004 16:08

Hi Popsycal - not been around for a week courtesy of the bloody sasser worm but luckily am back on line just in time to join in the SATS discussions.

Current state of play is that due to full marks being had by my dd in her science practice papers she's being put in for Science level 6!!!!! as well as maths and english.

I've passed your comments onto my dd and she thinks her teacher is a bit tapped as well. She's not worried about any of it as she realises its only a test and she can only do her best. The teacher can barely bring herself to talk to me today - maybe she knows something I know

dogwalker · 10/05/2004 16:19

Hi Jampot, Sorry I've not really been following this thread but are you saying that your dd's teachers are STILL saying that she will be doing level 6? I'm gobsmacked.

jampot · 10/05/2004 16:27

Me too dogwalker - I've spoken to her about it but it's her first year 6 year and I think she's a bit ambitious. We've had a couple of run-ins before so I just let her get on with it. My dd knows there's no chance she can sit the level 6 and she's not worried either way.

OP posts:
popsycal · 10/05/2004 19:58

Jampot - I really can't believe this
not only is there no level 6 but the teacher should not be allowed to look at any finsished scripts........

hmmm

Janh · 10/05/2004 19:59

Practice papers, popsy!

jampot · 10/05/2004 20:58

Practice papers were done last week - dd got 38/40 and 40/40 - thought they were just "practice" - although she did tell me today that she could have looked at the finished papers but decided not to because she would probably be frustrated at some of the answers !!

Think she may be trying to prove herself a little too hard - is she in line for a bonus or similar for good marks?

OP posts:
popsycal · 10/05/2004 21:03

no bonus for good marks

i wish!!!

note to self: must read post properly - didnt notice that little word 'practice' in there

can't wait for her to tell you that actually THE LEVEL SIX TESTs DON'T EXIST!!!!!!

jampot · 10/05/2004 21:19

Me neither popsy....she's been really off with me today even though I took all the class (22!) a little cake to munch after lunch..
