KS2 - LEVEL 6???

jampot · 28/02/2004 22:30

My daughter is apparently being tutored at school for level 6 at KS2. However, I understand from a website that level 6 extension papers finished last year. Can any of the teachers explain how level 6 can be achieved? Sorry to be ignorant.

there are extension TASKS that the teacher can do to support their TEACHER ASSESSMENT of pupils working at level 6 but the test only assess levels 3 to 5

tomorrow at work i will check a document that I KNOW has it in.....it is last year's 'bible' on SATS and is not available online anymore...

How should schools assess higher and lower attaining pupils?

popsycal · 02/03/2004 21:33

Thias is taken from www.teachernet.gov.org (or .co.uk) - couldnt do a link
Was published this time last year!!!

"More able pupils will no longer be able to take extension tests. Instead, optional tasks to help teachers in making teacher assessment decisions will be available on the QCA website from March 2003. There will also be other options for assessing more able pupils, including early entry for the end-of-Key-Stage tests for pupils on accelerated programmes. Guidance on assessing higher-attaining pupils will be published on the QCA website in March 2003.

For Key Stages 2 and 3 pupils working below the level of the tests, optional tasks to help inform teacher assessment will also be available on the QCA website from March 2003."

popsycal · 02/03/2004 21:35

Please tell your child' teacher to look at their publication entitled
'Assessment and Reporting arrangements 2003' - was new to last year's document and isn't repeated in the 2004 document.

This has really got my goat, Jampot, that your dd's teacher does not know this!!!
Ho hum!

jampot · 02/03/2004 21:49

Popsycal - I do believe you I do, I do, I do. I have had issues with this teacher before (my very first thread was regarding residential trip to Bude and the problems she was causing me). I have tried to explain what you told me but she is adamant. The school is not a high achieving school and I do wonder whether they are not fully up to speed on changes within SATS. Incidentally this is her first year with year 6. I am afraid she is in my humble opinion a "silly cow". I am very grateful for your advice on this. Please let me buy you a drink in the bar.

oh dear - had such a busy day i forgot to get the document.....
any luck with your dd's teacher??

jampot · 03/03/2004 19:49

Didn't get to see her today as dd had after school activity. BUT I did see last year's year 6 teacher (who is now my ds's year 2 teacher) and he said "you can send for extension papers..!!!" In his defence he did say "we don't usually do it". Please can my dd transfer to your school where it would appear you know what you're talking about. I can't pop into the bar to buy you a drink just yet but will do in about an hour! I can't wait for July when dd will finish here.

OP posts:
