Children of divorce in COE schools: Are they frowned upon?

My kids go to COE shool(s) in England. I am thinking of leaving DH. In fact I have made up my mind that I want to leave him, just not when. But, I'm worried about the impact on my kids at their school. If your DCs go to COE schools, are you divorced? Do they have friends whose parents are divorced? How are they treated? And how is the divorced parent treated? Should I wait until they finish primary before I leave?

I have changed my name in case (D)H sees it, as he does not yet know my plans. Though, I don't suppose he would really be surprised.

Seema a bit unchristian to take it out on the kids. But, sorry I have no experience.

That should be the least of your worries
We are practising Christians, not at a CofE school, but know a lot of families who are, or who teach at one.
Just as in any well-run, caring school, you should hopefully get extra support and understanding for your family at this time, not antagonism or prejudice.
If you feel this might not be the case at your schools, try and do a discreet school gates check if you can. I can't believe that you are the first or only family at the school with separating parents.

Can only think of one instance offhand where parents have split up, but the school was very supportive of the child.

Well our local Catholic school has lots of children of parents who are divorced and single mums - there is never a problem with this (and the Catholic Church has even stronger views on divorce than the CofE). In fact the school runs a special support group after school for children affected by divorce or bereavement

I wouldn't have thought so, surely it's fairly common these days? FWIW I was at a CofE school back in the 70s when my parents divorced and no-one commented, apart from some teachers being sympathetic.

As a teacher in a Cof E school (VC not VA if that makes a difference - church is generally a little less invoved in VC schools but that certainly wasn't too eveident at mine!) I would say that at least 50% of the children I have taught have parents who are divorced/ unmarried/ remarried/ even gay. I really think that the best way for you to protect your childrenis to do what keeps you and your (D)H as happy and normal to them as possible. Good Christians will not judge you or your children on your lifestyle - surely, for those who believe in God, it is not their business. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
