How do I take a child out of school for last 1/2 day of term?

Due to a mix up with dates when booking flights ds is missing the last half day at school this term. I spoke to his teacher who said not to worry but do I need to formally ask for permission to take him out of school for this half day or just write a letter informing them that I am. What would you do?

He is in yr1 btw.
TIA

ask the secretary. at our school you have to fill in a very short slip and don't need to give a reason.

I'd just do it. Tell the school by all means, but sod getting permission. Nobody will remember by September.

I would just go too.

Our school has holiday forms to fill in.

At ds1's school you fill in a form and give it to the secretary. They like as much notice as possible though.

I think if the teacher has said ok - she will mark him in the register as an authorised absence and you don't need to do anything else.

Our school has a form to fill in to get permission - I did this for a half day absence for similar reasons just before half term.
