Teachers who like Gove

.....any teachers out there??? I have never seen a single post of support for him. It would be interesting to see if there are any and to hear some counter arguments.

creamteas I think this cohort will vote. It seems to me the very small silver lining to this cloud is that they have been politicised. They are far more aware than my older DDs cohort who did have the catalyst of witnessing their peers emerging from school distraught and in tears last year, facing higher fees etc etc. My DD had a rant the other night about how my generation had had all the advantages but had screwed over her generation, it was clearly a rant that had been rehearsed in the sixth form common room. I couldn't argue with it all.......

creamteas · 20/10/2013 11:45

shooting I really do hope they will start voting in high numbers.

But although they are heartily pissed off, the first cohort of my undergrads on £9K fees, do not seem to have a different attitude to voting to previous ones when this is discussed in my classes.

Shootingatpigeons · 20/10/2013 11:57

It is the ones that start next year though that have bourne the brunt of Gove. We will see. Certainly DD was very keen to make sure she was going to be on the electoral roll when the form arrived last week, and we have such a good sitting MP that it is more personal than national IYSWIM. I don't recall DD1 taking such an interest though she hasn't had a chance to vote yet.

straggle · 20/10/2013 12:04

But who are they going to vote for, Shootingatpigeons? I usually vote tactically but my heart isn't in it any more. There's no 'Anyone but Gove' box.

Talkinpeace · 20/10/2013 13:21

DH goes to around 100 schools a year and meets hundreds of teachers at other events.
He has never ever met one who likes him.

He met a lady who had been at a seminar with him that gave great insight into how he gets away with it.
Before the seminar Gove chatted to all the teachers over coffee. Then in his speech he was able to name check them and their schools from memory - pointing to where they were sitting as he spoke. Scary but impressive.

The sooner he is reshuffled to being in charge of South Georgia the better.

I have a year 11 child whose exams are being messed about every week.
Its criminal what he is doing to them.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 20/10/2013 13:38

Talkingpeace I agree but what has South Georgia ever done wrong?
Perhaps he should be in charge of Staffa instead...

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 20/10/2013 13:39

Is your dh an ofsted inspector talkinpeace? [Grin]

Talkinpeace · 20/10/2013 13:45

Atruth Nope. Schools are pleased to see DH Wink
Katy Hmmm, yup OK - then I could spit at him a I went to visit Fingalls Cave again.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 20/10/2013 13:50

[Grin]
Intrigued...
Paul Ginnis?

Talkinpeace · 20/10/2013 13:53

Wink close but no cigar !
DH works with the kids more than Paul does. I suspect quite a few MN posters children would clock him Smile

soul2000 · 20/10/2013 14:11

Just to put everybody's mind at ease i am not Micheal Gove.
I think Gove is probably the worst education secretary since Charles Adderley, even the EARL OF DERBY HATED HIM.

soul2000 · 20/10/2013 14:13

I think Gove should do the decent thing just like Robert Lowe in 1864, though he was a Liberal so perhaps David Laws should consider Resigning to.

soul2000 · 20/10/2013 14:21

I actually think Gove would like to take education back to 1884, that would be a way to secure "TORY" control for decades. Oh what fun it would be if
only house owners and land lords had the vote.

feelingdizzy · 20/10/2013 14:30

I'm a teacher, he is dangerous, his policies and his attitude towards teachers is destroying state education.

Erebus · 20/10/2013 15:27

I am so not into conspiracy theories- BUT I genuinely believe that Gove, along with Hunt when he was the Health Minister, actually do have a brief to covertly destroy state education and state health. I really do. I cannot think for the life of me why else they'd be shifting goalposts and attempting to divide and conquer with the enthusiasm that these people do.

It's rather obvious why: Both areas are ripe and ready to be picked off by Tory donors to make themselves ever-richer.

greyvix · 20/10/2013 15:35

Re the original thread, there is not one single post in support of Gove, not even a name-change one. I actually was quite happy with the way education was going pre Gove.

marssparklesdownonme · 20/10/2013 16:34

Sorry but Laws isn't much better. A thief and a cheat. What a great example to our children.

MidniteScribbler · 20/10/2013 19:46

I'm a teacher in Australia and even I hate Gove.

He's the Thomas Midgley of education.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 20/10/2013 21:35

Off topic re an earlier point - the story about Margaret Hodge and tax avoidance is bollocks - the Telegraph later apologised for it.

soul2000 · 20/10/2013 22:25

Tondelayo. That might be the case , but Margaret Hodge and family are still as wealthy as any tory.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 20/10/2013 22:42

And...?

soul2000 · 20/10/2013 22:47

They is no difference between any of them just that Labour are better liars.

RubyrooUK · 20/10/2013 23:16

I'm not a teacher but I just couldn't resist any opportunity to express loathing of Gove. Thanks.

babasheep · 21/10/2013 10:15

By the way .............. my 10 yr old dc really hates him too. Especially when sometimes dc heard from the news yet another........... more tests ....... longer school days ..............

Elibean · 21/10/2013 10:31

He's great at building positive relationships with his workforce then Grin

Not a teacher, but a school Gov and find it utterly gobsmacking that someone who doesn't listen or negotiate can end up as a Minister at all.

Rather naive of me, clearly.
