dd has exchanged with a french student and she has been staying with us for nearly a week. The kids from france go to an international school near paris ,and all the french kids are completely bilingual as they've either lived in the states for yrs or have english speaking parents. It puzzles me as to why dd's school would arrange an exchange when our english kids aren't challenged at all.
Not really that concerned just curious,is this something you've experienced?

Certainly not! My French exchange pal's English was atrocious
I suppose it could be your dd's school not really doing their homework, or not having much choice of school in France. We were on holiday there recently and our gite owners were teachers and their daughter was 17. Her long-standing school-exchange programme had foundered after 7/7 - with the English school retaliating by saying they would just send their students on a day-trip to Lille instead, thanks
You'd like to think that as well as conversation practice it's also about living in another country, but it sounds as though your exchange girl has been there and done that too. Is she being very blase with you?

Seems odd but I suppose it is as much a cultural exchange as a language experience. It is a slightly soft option though as there isn't the communication barrier to force the language skills. Is this a school they exchange with regulalry, perhaps the teachers know each other ?

It's a new arrangement with this school as last school couldn't get enough kids involved.Maybe 7/7?
She isn't blase as such but she doesn't need any english practise...she has an american accent ffs!
Dd wants to do a spanish exchange next year....god I'm knackered just thinking about it.
