Using a fairground striker to raise funds at school fete

Anybody used one of these (there are mini strikers designed for children whereby they hit the base with a hammer and try to reach the target, with a prize for hitting the target)...?

How much did you charge per go? How much interest did it generate? What prize did you offer ? What was the 'win' rate? and how much money did you make

I've found a local place that hires them out for £20. I was going to try and negotiate a reduced hire fee of £10 on the basis that I would collect and return the striker (you see 4x4's do have a use); the £20 normally covers collection and delivery you see.

I was thinking of charging 50p a go. Any less and I might struggle to make profit....also it's imperative I know what the 'win' rate is going to be (as will have to fork out on a prize for the winners) in order to work out the fundraising potential of this...

I think I may have to bump this 96 times or so before I chance across the one other mumsnetter who has used a fairground striker for fundraising purposes

Ok - if you can't answer these questions directly through no direct experience you can answer this:

*would you pay for your child to have a go on a fairground striker at a village fete / school fete?

• if so, how much? (50p okay?)
• and if your child won, what sort of prize would be acceptable for winning?

WE had one at out fete lasyt yr, but I can't remember how much it was and do'nt know what it cost to hire,

so I'm really useless

Yes i would pay for mine to have a go.And 50p is fine.Not sure on prizes though!

But I would say that IMHO the 'prizes' should be mimimal e.g. a lollipop or similar as the kids will have the pleasure of having a go for their money

50p sounds a reasonable price. Never known these things to be less than that.

For the prize I'd only be excpecting some little token gift thing (bouncy ball, pop up frog, i.e Baker Ross type thing like \link{http://www.bakerross.co.uk/thumbnail2.asp?fldCatID_1=16&fldCatID_2=193\these} or \link{http://www.bakerross.co.uk/showitem2.asp?fldImgID=836\these} things) or maybe a small mini bag of sweets/chocolate.

sound like something boys would love(and the girls will love beating them at) as for prizes sweets or something really cheat like a sticker saying something like winner
