What are the top co-ed or girls' boarding preps?

Hi, I keep hearing about lots of boys' boarding preps such as Sunningdale, Ludgrove etc. but couldn't think of a prominent girls' or co-ed boarding prep. I guess this has historical reasons, but are there any such boarding preps that are known for excellent senior school results (getting girls into Wycombe Abbey, Sevenoaks and the like)?

I am not looking for a discussion on why one would send a young child to boarding school by the way, I am just curious if there are any very successful/prestigious co-ed or girls' boarding preps. Thanks!

Co ed - Windlesham House School, West Sussex (lots of info on this school on Mumsnet).

I am not so sure about girls... Godstowe used to be good?

Plus it depends whether you want full or weekly boarding.

Vinehall in Sussex is co-ed and has a lot of boarders. They send kids to most of the big name Public schools.

If you're further north S Anselm's in Bakewell, Derbyshire is co-ed, boarding, sends to all the top public schools with lots of scholarships. And the kids love it!

Agree with Pyrrah about Vinehall. Lovely atmosphere, charming (and very normal) boarders and boarding staff, excellent academic success record with pretty much every senior school in the country.

Feltonfleet

Joan Feltonfleet has up to 40 boarders and these are a mixture of full and flexi boarders. Their boarding week runs from Monday to Thursday night so maybe not the sort of full boarding the OP is after.

We had friends with a DD who boarded at Port Regis. The school had the most amazing facilities, but there were few boarders in the younger age groups. This was a problem for them as overseas parents but may not be for the OP if her DD is in the last 2 years.

My old school sent those who were able on to the top secondaries (girls). It was also amazing fun and a fantastic childhood. Magical memories. Looked at the website the other day and it appears little has changed. Hanford - in Dorset.

Hanford is just the best kind of prep school.

As Grovel said, Hanford. Possibly the nicest girls prep school in Britain. And gets a number of scholarships every year to many of the top public schools, despite being tiny.

Yes Hanford is lovely. Well worth a look. They get amazing results for such a small school. We were very struck on it.

On the Co-Ed front a friend has recently made us go and look at school in Worcestershire Abberley Hall (well out of our area but they run transport to London and other areas at exeats and half terms) and I have to say I am very glad we went to look as we came away very very impressed. Its a co-ed mainly boarding school. Very traditional in a lot of ways. They get their pupils into top public schools all over the UK. Leavers destinations included Cheltenham Ladies College, Gordonstoun, Badminton, Malvern College, Marlborough etc. Lots of scholarships as well.

CocktailMumma AH's results are even more impressive when you consider that they are completely non-selective. I definitely second it as a co-ed option - definitely better for climbing trees and playing cricket type girls than stereotypically "girly" ones though .
