State for us.
I don't want to start a debate (other threads for that!), just wondering where the percentage lies. tia

State

State 45
Fee paying 20

Would consider paying at secondary though

Clary · 10/04/2006 11:22

Yes, fisil and lockets, what has it come to that we now feel the need to apologise for/justify our choice to state educate?
I could understand if people felt the need to “apologise” for going private - not that I think they should apologise, as it’s their choice.
But is it really now seen as a Bad Thing to send your child to the local state school. Bloomin heck!
FWIW I live in a middle class area so our school is very “nice” but I actually have never been in a primary in this city (and I have visited many through my job) where I haven’t been impressed by the children, the staff, and mostly the premises too.

Both at independent primary, third to start in September (ouch££)

imo state primaries with dodgy heads all follow the same pattern;

Become good
Get popular
Numbers go up
School gets overcrouded
School becomes crap
everyone leaves
Becomes good
and so on

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/04/2006 11:28

State primary & secondary (for 3).

Private just not an option financially. Would have sent them private at secondary if it had been.

PrincessPeaHead · 10/04/2006 11:30

private for 2, 3rd starts in sept

JanH · 10/04/2006 11:32

4 kids - all went to state primary and state secondary. Schools are good here, which is lucky as we could never have afforded private (and none of them is brilliant enough for a scholarship Grin)

Cam · 10/04/2006 11:33

Private

Tinker · 10/04/2006 11:34

Clary - don't think mn is that representative though. Think it's only 9% of kids nationally who are privately educated (about 17%? in London) Private is just not a subject that is even discussed, never mind considered, by people I know.

GDG · 10/04/2006 11:39

anteater - lucky for us, not ours! Ours has been at the top of the tables with a fab reputation since I was at primary! (30 yrs ago!)

Issyfit · 10/04/2006 11:42

Private (1).

See any number of long, self-indulgent, tortured threads passim about our schoolchoice for DD1.

not in school yet but will be attending excellent local state primary and good state grammar. Top educate my children privately I would have to send them 100 miles away and sell my house!

MissChief · 10/04/2006 11:47

state unless our move means we're offered sink school for ds1 - we'd definitely go private at any cost then..

pashmina · 10/04/2006 13:00

state - but very lucky to be in catchment for a highly rated school. if I couldn't get them in to a good school I would pay for private willingly. don't we all want the best for our kids?

springintheair · 10/04/2006 13:27

Private for our dds but our local state schools are awful.

spidermama · 10/04/2006 13:35

State.

roisin · 10/04/2006 13:46

UPDATE
State: 50
Fee paying: 25

foxinsocks · 10/04/2006 13:47

state for both mine

Jennypog · 10/04/2006 13:53

State primaries and state grammars. However, if kids hadn't been able to go to a grammar we would have paid at secondary level. Not at primary level though, as the schools have been lovely.

speedymama · 10/04/2006 13:57

Schneebly, how do you know that your DC will attend state grammer if they haven't even started school yet? Just curious because you sound very definite in your presumptionSmile

CountessDracula · 10/04/2006 14:00

Not yet decided but veering towards state

drosophila · 10/04/2006 14:45

State but then our local private schools are crap!!!!Grin

Enid · 10/04/2006 14:46

state for us but we are lucky enough to have a very high performing state primary on our doorstep

Uwila · 10/04/2006 14:46

state.

Can't afford private. Would prefer it if I could. Hope to be able to pay for private by secondary. Or maybe I should start weighing any scholarship options.

Anyway, my personal preference is for a private education, but financial necessity will send us down the state road.

Although, if we don't get into a good state school, then I will consider bank robbery to pay for the private education. Shhh... don't tell anyone.

Enid · 10/04/2006 14:47

sorry thats for dd1 only but dd2 starts next Sept
