I am already stressed, and school has not even started. I am trying to prepare myself for the coming months. I have given up trying to prepare my son, that will just have to fall in to place.

I am making a spreadsheets of open days and schools to see.

How many of you have already decided? What are your choices?

On my list is:
Emmanuel School Battersea Rise
Kings College School Wimbledon
Christs in Sheen,
Ashcroft Technology Academy in Putney
Ibstock Place Putney
Colet Court in Barnes
Gunnersbury in Ealing

I don't think you can avoid the Year 6 secondary school anxiety really but try to keep it in perspective ...! You come out the other side and it's surprisingly fine, honestly.
In SW London there is an amazing choice, especially if you are looking at both state and private.

I'd first decide if your son would suit mixed or single sex and if you want/ can afford private. There are lots of threads on the pros and cons of these issues.

I'd also look at his academic abilities and involve your child and seek his views as you go along.

You have quite a range in your list already though. ( I know more about girls than boys schools but i think you can cross off Colet Court as it's a prep school and so stops at year 6 - and is a feeder school for St Paul's boys.)
Kings in Wimbledon is really hard to get into as is St Paul's. Ibstock and Emmanuel are both good schools but historically seen as easier to get into.

State
•It is worth seeing Grey Court in Ham. It's a good school and lots of Richmond and Sheen children go there too.
•Tiffin boys in Kingston - Entrance by exam and very academic.
•West London free school - new school in Hammersmith set up by Toby Young and there are loads of threads about it.

Private
•Is it also worth seeing Hampton ( This is boys but there's a school bus that picks up from SW London. The bus is shared with the girls' school next door.)
• Kingston Grammar - great mixed school.Lovely.
•Also Latymer Upper in Hammersmith /Chiswick- also mixed and popular.

Hope that helps and hasn't added too many more to your list.

lonely Colet Court is a prep school and takes boys up to 13 and has an intake at 11+. It is very academic and highly selective at 11+.

Good luck OP.

QS - that's a wide geographical area. Have you considered transport?

what are your son's strengths because some schools are very much geared towards: sport, the arts, the sciences etc.

If you are thinking of the Free school then also look at Hammersmith Academy. Are you thinking of going private or state?
