Dear all,

I know there are some threads about this already but they are from 2 years ago and I'm in need of newer facts :)

We are wanting to move to Hove and I'm in need of some advice for schools! How do you get in?! And which ones are worth fighting for?

Thanks a lot in advance!!

It's a bit of a lottery in B&H just now.

Davigdor and somerhill are lovely.

West Hove seems really nice.

St Bartholomews I would avoid like the plague.

I don't know anything about the others though so can't comment. :)

Thanks ladies! my son is 2 and a half only, but given that we are moving, I would rather move to one place where we know we'd stay on for school, rather than moving twice in the next couple of years!!

So I'm looking for primary schools...

For me it wasn't about results. It was about the feel of the school & in part those results. The school I chose was on the up, small classes, playing fields & great teachers. Can give you details privately.
BTW I am in the catchment for West Hove & didn't choose it. For me it had too many pupils & hardly any space, but this is just my opinion ;-)

Hi Mutteroo,

I totally agree with you. I prefer a nice school that has interesting and mind opening extra curiculum for example... up to age 11, I believe it really is about what they learn at home and school must be a safe, happy and exciting place!

Thanks!

My dd goes to Davigdor and it's a lovely school but it's BIG!! It's also getting bigger.
You won't get much choice of any school in hove. They are all hugely oversubscribed unless you go outwards to west blachington or portslade. If u are set on central hove, then be prepared to move onto the schools doorstep to get a place. And I mean DOORSTEP, going by recent years most of the catchments will be down to about 500m by the time u apply Sad

CharlieUniform....

Why would you avoid St Bartholomew's like the plague?

We're moving to Brighton next month and were very smug about being near an "outstanding" rated primary. Have we missed something?
