Is there a one-stop shop to finding out about the school system?

Things like which primary schools you are entitled to apply to and when you should do it and which schools a pupil then then apply to for secondary education etc. Also, how you get to look around and make an informed choice etc. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website which gives local and general information?

It is a way off as DD isn't even 1yo yet but we may have to take things into consideration when we move house, which we plan to do in the next 18months or so. Thanks.

I don't know where you are, but our council has a number for a Children's Information Service, and they also put out a booklet that has a map of schools in the borough, the addresses, and basic information as to when you need to apply, and how, etc. I would contact your local council's education department for a start.
