should they be in the evening to allow more people to attend?

Always in the evening for Full Governing Body meetings. Late afternoon for one committee because it suits the Governors involved. Evening for the others.

Who is unable to attend at yours?

We have struggled to be quorate for committee meetings recently which are abetween four and five. The school is not keen on moving them to the evening.

It is the people who work full time who struggle - which is most of them.

In the evening 7.15pm for all governors meetings. Though I'm going to an academy steering one this evening at 6pm because we wanted to do it before the usual resources one at 7.15.

Ours are at 7pm. They used to be at 7.30 but that made the finish too late.

One is in the morning and I was unable to make that so had to drop out of that committee. We decided late afternoon - whilst preferable for teaching staff/head was no good for most others.

Ours are at 6:30. (Until about 10). How do you get it all done in an hour?!

Kellamity · 30/01/2012 08:03

7pm for FGB and 6.45 & 7.45 for sub committees all four on the same night. 2 at a time run back to back usually away by 8.30pm

pearlgirl · 30/01/2012 08:07

Full governing body at 7pm and committees normally at 6.30pm (though sometimes at 6pm).

Oh dear. I was once a parent governor and the meetings were at 4.30pm, which is a terrible time of day whether you are working or SAHM. At the time I was a SAHM and so DH had to try to get home in time for me to go out.

Ours were 2.30, so really hard for working parents and for parents with primary aged children. I had to give up my place. They weren't keen to change.

Trumpton · 30/01/2012 08:49

2.00 until 3.30 . We have Head present , a teacher governor , a parent governor and 2 co-opted community governors. It works well for us, but I do hold a tight meeting with no wittering.

IndigoBell · 30/01/2012 10:29

We have ours at 6:30

At a school I used to be governor at they moved them from evenings to during the day - and I'm convinced it was so that they wouldn't attract working parents who were assertive and confident, but instead get SAHMs who were more likely to agree with the HT.
