Do you send your kids to school on their birthdays?

My dds have the same birthday and this year I am planning on keeping them off so they can enjoy their birthday.
The alternative is sending them, them not having 5 mins to open their pressies let alone play with them and then with a heavy heart sending them off crying. Not for me.
If they got up at 5am and had chance to play I wouldnt mind but we barely have time for anything in the morning as it is so it would be chaotic...anyway...how much trouble am I going to get in for this? Do I lie and say they both had tummy bugs or what? What do you do?

Why do people think that the primary timetable is any less full than secondary?

daisy1999 · 12/11/2005 16:53

mine have their birthdays in the holidays and they have asked if this year they can move it to a school day (kind of like the Queen with an official birthday). They want to be able to hand out sweets and be made a fuss of!

The difference between taking holidays in term time and what is being proposed here is that holidays are taken with permission, and the latter is being lied about.

Oh are we on abut holidays now then ??

I would take my kids out for holidays whilst they are in primay schol yes. Wouldn't have a family holiday otherwise.

SoupDragon · 12/11/2005 16:59

Noooo, I was just answering a question a little way down asking what the difference was. You carry on

soupy, thats why i actually asked permission. I was told that it had to go to the governors in writing so thats what i did and was told no.
So, i wondered what the difference is, a two week trip or a day trip...nonne if you ask me.
i should have asked the head, but i didn't want to cause a fuss at the time

mugface · 12/11/2005 17:14

oh aloha I'm another person who loathed and detested school. Was a bit of an outsider (bit of an understatement).
Hope springs eternal though and I do hope (and in fact believe) things will be different for ds when he gets to that age - and that therefore he'll be delighted to go in on his birthday (which will definitely be term time) - as he should.

charliecat · 12/11/2005 17:18

She missed assembly and was back in time for classes. BTW
