hoping people can help me! I have a 4 month old son and since before he was born i have been thinking about sending him to a good private school. I this a good education is one of best things u can give your child and i am very passionate i need advice as to what i can do to get started. i know hes only 4 months but i want to prepare early as possible. I currently live in newport and understand that rougemont and monmouth are the two closest. which shall i go for? Is there any thing i should start doing to prepare myself and my son? Any advice would be most helpful! Any recommendations for my son! :)

Why don't you use your money for moving into the catchment of a fantastic State School?

You'll have a nice house, in a good area and a fabulous free education for your DC.

If it's a non-selective, first-come-first-served school, then it might be worth sticking your DS on the list somewhere (especially if you are in London) as a backstop - all you stand to loose is the registration fee, and if you know you can get in somewhere, it might be easier to relax and look at others in slower time. There is no advantage in early registration for selective schools.

Echoing some of the others on here that you should put dc's name down on all the local private schools asap - where I am in north east London you haven't got a hope of getting them in unless you've put their name down before they're 6 months old. I learned the hard way as tried to register ds1 at 9 months old and got laughed off the phone.

I know some children who go to Monmouth School and they love it there and are very good adverts for the school.

I don't think you're being premature either. I attended an Open Evening whilst pregnant and put my application in when DD was one year old.
