Is there any way I can find out on line if a Primary School Reception is full ?

This is the next question, I know I can ring up Monday, but I wondered if I could have a look now. Also, do I contact the school direct, or the County Council ? Do I have to actually appeal, or can I simply apply to another one ? (We were refused our original choice because that school was too full and do not want the school they gave us )

It is very unlikely you will find out online. However, if the LA has refused you a place at the school it is definitely full. You can ring them on Tuesday and they should be able to tell you which schools have places - I doubt there will be anyone there on Monday!

You have the right to appeal for a place at your preferred school. You should be aware that most Reception appeals are infant class size which means you should only win if you can show that the LA has made a mistake and your child would have been admitted if they had got it right.

You can also apply for any other school you want and you have the right to appeal for those schools if you are refused admission.

I would recommend accepting the place you have been offered. Rejecting it will not help you at appeal and may damage your chances, nor will rejecting the offered place move your child up the waiting list. If you reject the offered place any alternative is likely to be further away and may be even worse than the school offered. Accepting the place means you have a backup while you look for alternatives.

You should make sure you are on the waiting list for all your preferred schools. That may be your best chance of getting a place at one of them.

I should add that your chances at appeal will be better if it is not infant class size.
