Are we entitled to a copy of the schools bullying policy?

To cut a long story short, DS started reception about 5 weeks ago. There is one boy who is calling DS names (this went on through nursery too but only appears to be bothering DS now). We had requested a copy on Monday at parents evening, I saw the Head yesterday and he said we are welcome to go down and view the policy and he will discuss it with us. However DH wants a copy of the policy here, which I told DS's teacher this morning.

Do we have the right to a copy of this policy?

Can't imagine why not. FoI Act etc.

Yup. Definately have a right to it, most places seem to have copies in the office to hand out to parents.

You have a right to see every school policy. I'm sure the rules state it should be 'made available' to you or something similar. I don't see why that would exclude you taking your own copy. Just ask for a photocopy. They'd need to have a very good reason not to give you one.

I would imagine the head's asked you to view it with him so he can talk through the policy and the situation with you. I'm assuming you've raised the problems with the teacher and you're not happy with the response? So surely you'd want the discussion?

If they don't give you a copy you can request one under the freedom of information act, you have to ask in writing and specify that it is a freedom of information request. They have to respond within 20 days. However, FoI is a pig from the side of the public body so don't do this unless you mind putting their backs up.

Thanks all

Philippat - yes the head would go through the policy with us, he and the other teachers are aware of the situation and up to now I am happy with what school are doing about it, it's just that we would like a copy at home aswell incase we have to refer back to it.
