row in parking lot with head teacher! (longish)

There is next to no parking by dd's school. Everyone complains but for the moment, nothing has actually been done about it, except for the police coming round & taking photos of pick-up & drop-off times. The yummy-mummies make it even worse with SUVs but anyway.

Yesterday when I went to pick up dd from school, I had to double park. I left my warning lights flashing to show that I was coming back soon. Unfortunately, dd didn't come to the car easily & then I got chatting with another mummy, as you do, forgetting completely about my precarious parking place.

On returning to the car, a group of angry women were clustered in front of the school & of course I apologised profusely to the one or two I had blocked.

One woman made a rather bitchy comment as I was charging by & when I saw her heading for her car a few minutes later, I asked her what she felt could be done about the parking. It's not my problem, she replied shortly. We got into an argument, which escalated, as things do on a Friday afternoon. She said, I'm a teacher at this school! to which I retorted, My daughter is a student at this school & if you're part of the staff, you should care about the parking problem! I wasn't rude, but I was very angry with her & she was angry with me.

I eventually roared off, furious and shaking, cursing the woman aloud. Do you know that silly woman? I asked DD. Yes, she said, she's the head teacher. Oh SH*T, I thought, Now I've done it.

How can I face her again? She'll be dd's teacher one day. I think I was right to be cross but I was at fault & certainly on the defensive. What do you think I can do?

Agree with all that Blu - I mean if someone's car isn't parked on the road all night they're not wearing the road out so much are they - [sucks a lemon]

Blu · 06/10/2005 17:51

Will you sign my petition to the Transport Minister on this issue, GuinOfCam?

Oh god, where IS aloha? Do you think Dragon HAS shot her

The first MN blood-feud. All this aristocratic stuff. it was bound to lead to this....

LadyDragonOfSoup · 06/10/2005 17:54

Is it OK for a homeless person to camp out in your gateway? After all, you ave a house and they don't and you can always climb over your wall...

Blu · 06/10/2005 18:03

I thought the gvt had made it officially acceptable to simply step over homeless people (esp if on way to opera) so that would hardly cause an obstruction, would it?

Er, we are joking here, aren't we?

I was....

LadyDragonOfSoup · 06/10/2005 18:05

Ooooh, yes! I was joking about the shot gun too, obviously. I only use that to shoot peasants. I mean pheasants.

Blu · 06/10/2005 18:11

LOL!

Blu · 06/10/2005 18:17

And to think how we lambasted poor Lav for encouraging her children to shoot peasants. And all the time it was the only workable answer to double parking, drive-blocking, coupes in P&T spaces...she could have brought them up to be traffic wardens!

LadyDragonOfSoup · 06/10/2005 19:21

One must remember to shoot only the inanimate object causing the obstruction though.

So that includes BMW drivers

you are all soooo british. grumble and mumble and complain under your breath (and on mumsnet) but never actually do something proactive about it.
Hi ks....i am absolutely brilliant, thanks for asking. I am just sooo glad to be back in my country where I communicate on the same plane as most everyone else (if you don't like something, don't grumble, change it).
AND where people mostly like children. I get complimented on how wonderfully well behaved my children are at least once or twice a day here. In london, I just got evil looks for taking them out to restaurants (god forbid) and letting them play in the park in bare feet (quel horror) and worst of all making them eat healthy food.

Can't believe this thread is still running & can't believe I'm perpetuating it.

BUT for all those who trumpet about how a half-hour walk is nothing... have you ever tried it in driving rain/snow/freezing wind/icy paths/semi-darkness etc with a tired, moaning 5 year old & a pushchair-hating 2 year old? Possible certainly but a torture I wouldn't be able to stand twice a day, 5 days a week from November to April. Anyway, enough said.

allhallows · 07/10/2005 12:52

BTW/FYI: dd's school has bought a site & will begin construction of new school shortly. Surrounded by fields, friendly cows, etc.Hope they're planning a massive parking lot!

Don't you hate & despise people who drive right up behind you when they want you to go faster?

compo · 07/10/2005 12:53

I think all us non-drivers have allhallows

allhallows · 07/10/2005 13:12

Before I got my licence, I used to push dd down to the train (usually running full tilt - late! Swiss trains are notorious for being punctual), lifting her pram up 2 flights of stairs & up two giant steps onto the train. Sometimes I'd get help; sometimes not. Ahhh, the good old days!

You're right compo. If I didn't drive, I wouldn't have a choice. It would be hell to drag my two through nasty weather but I'd have to, wouldn't I?

Caligula · 07/10/2005 13:14

It's character-building allhallows!
