Is there any solution to this other than bringing back grammars for every county?

Many good business schools run intensive pre MBA maths/stats courses for the so called "poets", i.e. those going in with a lower level of quantitative education and also English language courses for those who might struggle as they are speakers of languages that can score high in the ESOL exams but can't communicate well in English.

The schools do this as it is really in their interests to get good candidates through the course as diversity enhances the school and gives more chance of successful alumni. The schools need alumni to be successful, financially as they very much depend on alumni contributions or, if not financially, successful in other ways as it enhances the school's reputation.

If it was in Oxbridge or other unis' interest to provide more learning support to bright students with a less privileged education, they would do it IMO.

LilyBolero only if nit picking translates to disagreeing with you and the economist you used to back your assumptions
