Cuts to free school transport.

Why is free transport to faith schools being cut, but not free transport to grammar schools?

I don't want this to get into the rights and wrongs of different types of education, just wondering why grammar schools are escaping the cuts.

Bramshot- I can see policies like that coming in in the future, the way the cuts are going.

Arentfunny- but why should the poor child's parents be subsidising the rich child's parents for this facility?

MissAnneElk- in rural areas the house prices are cheaper which leaves a lot more disposable income than city dwellers.

Darlene, I'm not going to give my location so you'll just have to accept that house prices where I live are not cheap. I have moved around a fair bit and the only place I've lived which is more expensive is London. Actually, not by much
because when we moved here we bought a very similar (but slightly smaller) house for the same price.
I don't know why you keep
talking about poor people subsidising the rich people for
this facility. We all pay taxes and we all use some services
provided by the state. Poorer people (and rightly so) receive
more help, but we all receive
something.
At the risk of repeating myself, larger schools are more cost
effective (and provide better facilities for students) so in
order to provide a decent education for everyone
transport is provided rather than the more expensive option
of providing more smaller schools. You clearly think this should change. I don't and again at the risk of repeating myself neither does our LEA.

Darlene, house prices are not cheap round here, most of the rich people send their children to private school anyway, so no the poor as you put it are not subsidising the rich, and before you say well you can move, no we can't.

Lynette - yes even if they are more than 3 miles away, same for church schools.
