WWYD - move dd once to okay school, or twice to brilliant school?

Oof.

Don't really know why I am asking as it is not something anyone can decide for me.

Dd is 4yo. She goes to an IB school.

We are outside UK - so UK rules don't necessarily apply.

We have to move to another city in January. The best school in our new city is also IB. HOORAY! Moving between IB schools is the simplest thing in the world because all over the world they study the same sections of the syllabus at the same time (IE dd would move into her new school in January and all her new classmates would have been studying the SAME as she has been doing this semester in her old school).

But... IB school in new city has no spaces at all. Def not for January. Prob not even for September. Boooooo.

Choice 1: Move her to 2nd best school in city and leave her there (not IB system. Brit curriculum)

Choice 2: Move her to 2nd best school and transfer to IB when they get a place free.

Choice 3: Put her in a nursery (there's quite a good montesory that would take her, or any nursery really) and chill until the IB school have a place for her.

What would you do?

tbh at 4 I don't think it really matters what the official syllabus is. Transfer to the one with spaces and then consider whetehr to move her again if/when a space coems up. ds did IB PYP until 7 and on reflection it has proved less than ideal method for him.

Well I think that I'd rule out 3 if she is already at school, and you might not get a space at the IB school for another year or more. I'd send her to the best school that has a space and then see what happens. You may find that she is progressing so well that you don't want to move her by the time a space comes up at the IB school.

Serious question here: how do you know which is the best school for your dd?

YunoWhatYouDidLastSummer · 16/10/2010 15:43

Very good question cory. I don't. All I can do is make the best decision with the information available to me. Everyone I speak to yodles about the superority of the IB school there. But I do see you point, that doesn't necessarity make it the best school for my daughter.

The only hard facts in its favour on that score is the match-up of the curriculum, plus the fact that so far dd fiercely adores her current IB school.
