But have to confess, went to stay with my parents last week and took entire school kit (3 pairs of trousers to be altered, 2 shirts, 2 jumpers) all for her to sew the labels in.

waterfalls · 07/09/2005 11:33

I did it last night, takes just a few seconds to iron each one on.

noughtsandcrosses · 07/09/2005 11:34

Aimsmum, our school did the same. Of couse ds' were already done, being the organised mum that i am

noughtsandcrosses · 07/09/2005 11:34

Wouldn't dream of sewing them on-buy iron on ones instead

tatt · 07/09/2005 11:36

its only the rich ones who can afford to lose things.......am really irritated that I have to embroider initials on gym kit though.

Actually I found the iron-ons a real faff and some have come off ! My mum did most of them and I have done the sew ins .

I bought a laundry pen. At some point I will use it.

No uniform, though

Don't understand why anyone bothers with labels -it's laundry markers here. At the beginning of each year I go through and make sure the names are not faded. Probably takes me 20 mins. at most to do 3 children.

titchy · 07/09/2005 12:09

Well I've dutifully done everything for ds who started bid school today (gulp) - bought and labelled all uniform, book/pe pags, shoes, pumps, water bottle. Did it all weeks ago and felt very pleased with self. Only thing is I haven;t bought dd (now in year 2) any new pe kit so she went in today without and we're facing a last minute dash to shops after school! How on earth could I forget one child?

myturn · 07/09/2005 12:13

Did it once about 8yrs ago. Never again. What a hassle!

Monstersmum · 07/09/2005 12:51

Noticed that a lot of DS's stuff (M&S and Debenhams) had spaces on the labels to write name and class - excellent idea! Of course now what to do with the sew-in ones I got last year (knowing full well I wouldn't sew them in) and the iron-on ones this year!!!!

laurykins · 07/09/2005 14:14

A permanent marker does the trick very time.

Thomcat · 07/09/2005 14:16

Errrrrrr, was i supposed to?
whoops.
Does it make me a really bad mother if I tell you the thought never occured to me??!!

Tortington · 07/09/2005 14:47

didnt buy lables.i cut the existing lable in the coats ( as they are expensive and my son wont even remember what his new coat looks like) and wrote his name in using a permanant marker. took all of 30 secs

but last year the amount of times i had to go to lost property at school and ask for Jacobs jumper and was met with the sterness only a teacher can have when saying " does it have a lable in it mrs custardo"
"err no"
