Anyone with experience of Eton waiting list?

If your DS went to Eton from the waiting list, how soon before he started did you hear that he had got a place?

I am expecting to hear during the summer term before he would be due to go, but did anyone hear earlier than that?

Thx

rocky- I'm expecting DS to get a scholarship topped up with a bursery. Fortunatly he is a genius with low-income parents. Grin

My parents put me on the waiting list over 30 years ago, we're still awaiting their response.

Needmoresleep - many thanks for your reply. I've been away for a few days, so haven't been able to reply sooner.

It's interesting to hear about what other people have actually experienced in situations like this.

The assessment is done over two sessions, older boys in November last year and younger boys in June, so at least now the lists are finalised for the 2012 entry, and we may be able to obtain a clearer indication of how DS stands in the overall list.

Our headmaster is very good, and thinks that DS has a good chance. I know he will be encouraging Eton on our behalf to keep us informed of any progress. I think he will be helpful in talking to our back up choice too, as we are most definitely not able to afford two lots of fees Smile - but we are lucky enough to afford one lot.

My son has just taken the Eton College List test in September 2011, entry 2014. Has anyone received the results.

IndridCold · 07/03/2012 10:26

I used to be JeffVadar but I felt like a change of name a while back.

I hadn't intended to post this as it sounds very big-headed, but I've just re-read this thread and was touched again by the kind and thoughtful replies so I thought that I would update by saying that DS was offered a place at Eton last week.

When I told him he was very pleased and excited, so we were pleased at that; he will start this September (providing all goes will with CE).

Angelcakes - how did your DS do, did he get a place for 2014?

Well done!!!

We never looked round assuming that Eton was out of our league, but have been surprised both by how many boys we know are going there, and how delighted people are with the school.

The shortage of places for boys at London, especially West London, day schools seems to be fuelling an increased interest in 13+ boarding.

I wonder whether the place came up due to change of circumstance, poor mock CE results, or the fact that someone needed to make their mind up before Easter or become liable for two sets of fees. Fact is though that places do come up.

Do you have any advice for others?

Colleger · 07/03/2012 12:22

Would be interested too, especially if they explained why the place came up and if they called/wrote to you.

Do you already have a son at the school?

Congratulations, how did the new Registrar at Sherborne take the news?..lol...
