Plastic toys on magazines...

What does everyone think of those very disposable plastic toys on magazines? They entice kids to buy the magazine, but they last about 2 hours then get thrown in landfill, reverse all the anti-plastic lessons from school, and detract from the main purpose of buying a magazine - phasing them out seems like a very easy win?! Would love to start a campaign if anyone's keen...

We should go back to the days of easy to recycle paper comics like Beano and Bunty I think! Encourage kids to actually read

I think toys have a place, but if they all go in the bin within hours, they absolutely should not be plastic

I'd support this. I quite like buying magazines for the colouring, reading the stories and activities but limit it for this reason.

To be fair some of the plastic toys are less worse. Mine have played a lot with some of the action figures or Barbie accessories.

I worked in this industry - for the company whose magazine is front on your photo - and I always fought for more environmentally friendly covermounts. Everyone's sales are checked against the covermounts, and the ones that are biggest plastic tat always had the biggest sales figures. A notebook and pencil, or a book, never did well. So trying to fight that is a losing battle. Having been out of the industry now for a couple of years, and the heightened alert of the impact of tatty plastic, I remain surprised these are still a thing. All I can say is write to the editors and the more emails they receive, the more they might pay attention or try harder.
