Cloth diapers/nappies - best 3kg washing machine

Hello all,

We live in a small apartment and are keen to do the eco, cloth nappy thing for our first child. Space is limited and we are trying to figure out which 3kg washing machine would be best for use with cloth diapers. Does anyone have any experience or advice they could offer? Has anyone used either of the below models and found them to be decent enough?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks

You don’t need a separate washing machine. I’m not sure a camping style one would rinse enough, you really need a good rinse cycle option to ensure you get all the detergent out. If you get a build up of detergent the washed nappies will start to smell.

Is this a separate washing machine to your normal one? If so, you really don't need one.. you just need a good wash routine.. up until weaning all baby poop/pee can go straight into the wash ( make sure you do a separate pre wash and then a longer main wash) after weaning you just need to knock any solids into the loo before doing the same routine.

Don't you have a regular washing machine? Cloth nappies need long cycles to get properly clean and I'm not sure a camping style washing machine would do the job.

Sorry. I should have included that piece of info. We don’t have a washing machine as normally would be the case. We live in an apartment in Switzerland and the norm here is that an apartment block shares a washing machine. You get allocated a day to do your wash. Hence looking for a mini washing machine that we can use for the diapers....

I suspect that any eco benefits of using reusable nappies will be undone by buying a whole new machine to wash them in…

Is there a washing service in your town? We lived in an apartment with share laundry (no set days, pot luck) so I had a service that dropped off clean oneszweekly collecting the dirty ones. They provided the nappy inserts and bins, I had to buy the compatible wraps

The Amazon reviews aren't exactly complimentary and you might be surprised just how heavy a couple of nappies get once they're wet.

Would a cloth delivery and laundering service be an option for you?
