Cash on collection instead of paypal.

I have just won something on ebay which the buyer has asked for cash on collection rather than paypal to avoid fees, now I don't have a problem with the avoiding fees part but I thought with paypal I would have more comeback if I got home and discovered a huge rip in the product. Is that correct?

TIA

did you know it was pay on collection when you bid?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 30/06/2010 16:35

Under payments it says paypal.

The problem with Paypal for pick up items is that there is no proof of you collecting and a buyer could then claim through paypal for not receiving the item.

I've got the opposite problem at the moment - first time I've sold a pick-up item and I've put payment by paypal before collection but now wondering about this idea they might claim they hadn't received item and whether i can change it to ask for cash If the paypal payment has gone through and we've removed the money before pick up then surely they can't just take it back?

Not much help to you OP but maybe it shows most of us people are generally decent and all equally worried about being ripped off. And hopefully an extra bump.

cash on collection is better when collecting.

As tortoise says, you could pay collect. There is no proof you have collected anything so you could say that he wasn't in and put a claim in and get the money back.

It is normal procedure.

To be frank I'm not worried about the seller just wondered if it had any bearing on my rights if I got it home and then found a problem with it IYSWIM.

forget it is ebay, use common sense, and check it well before you leave.

Crunchy - even if you withdraw the money from paypal, if they claim non receipt paypal will refund them and then chase you for the money.

thanks for all your advice, think will do cash on collection and just check it thoroughly when there as posters have suggested.
