Is there any point doing sniper if the reserve has not been met?

I know what the reserve is if it matters

if the reserve has not been met they don't have to sell.
not sure if this answers your question.
If you know the reserve and are prepared to bid that amount or above it then use that figure for your highest bid

KatyMac · 29/06/2010 09:49

I have bid a maximum above the reserve

But say the reserve is £130 & the currently bid is £62

I have 'sniped' (if that is the right word) £180

So will it put in £64, or £130 or £180?

Or something else?

Help??

It will put in 130, if it's the same as the one I use. Basically it will throw a bid of 180 in which will stick at the lowest level it can - just above another bid if the reserve has been met, or at the reserve price if not.

KatyMac · 29/06/2010 12:20

Right

& if I bid myself & put £180 in, would it be £130 or £62?

OP posts:

it's this one

Oh hell I didn't know there was more than one

If you bid yourself and put in £180 it would list your bid as £130 as well. From eBay's Help pages:

"If your maximum bid is the first to meet or exceed the reserve price, the effective bid displayed will automatically be raised to the reserve price."

Great so that works too

So does it always work?

Or should I put a lower bid in at 15 minutes left?

(Can you tell I am panicking)

If I am sniping and am desperate for the item I use 2 sniping sites (free ones). with 5 pence difference. I am a big sniper as I find it works much better than last minute bids.

beammeupscotty · 05/07/2010 19:27

I use gixon it has never let me down!

KatyMac · 05/07/2010 19:42

I got it at the very low reserve
