i have never had an Ebay account, so why/how have I been sent an 'ebay account renewal notice' email?

Is it likely to be some sort of scam?

Should I simply delete?

It's a scam, obviously. As are the similar ones from HMRC, Paypal and every other bank that you've never had an account with (and probably the ones you do as well).

Delete without opening.
