Why have I been blocked ?

From a seller I have never bought anything from before ??

Really odd.

Its only a paperback book that cost a couple of quid and the seller is a superseller or whatever. I buy quite a lot of books but never bought anything from this seller as I've checked my feedback.

I'm an honest small time ebayer but cant understand what this about and I feel a bit slighted !

Sometimes sellers can block buyers from bidding if they have a certain amount of unpaid item strikes.

Or if you don't have enough feedback, if I remember correctly?

RunforFun · 13/06/2010 11:41

Nope none of those.

279 with 100% (but some old granny gave me a neutral a month a go ... ggrrrrr

Don't know what else it coud be.
Did you try contacting him and ask why? It might just be a technical error.

RunforFun · 13/06/2010 11:53

Nah, not really into begging to be allowed to bid on his items.

Plenty more fish in the sea.

Thanks for reassuring me though.

possible reasons for being blocked -
are in a country to which they don't post
have too many unpaid item strikes
have too many breach of policy reports

Some people (myself included) add members to the blocked bidders list if they hear from another seller or simply just come across a buyer who is difficult or leaves unreasonable feedback, or similar stuff.

KickButtowski · 13/06/2010 16:10

Maybe this seller is someone you have dealt with before b ut they have since changed their name, so you don't recognise them?

I frequently add people to my blocked list and have changed my name a few times on there so it could be that.

nbee84 · 13/06/2010 16:12

Did you buy the book, read it and then sell it on?

Maybe he just saw that you had resold the book and thought you were buying to sell again at a higher profit?

nbee84 · 13/06/2010 16:14

Sorry, just saw that you haven't bought from him before - but maybe he's noticed that you have done this with previous books from other sellers.

sixlostmonkeys · 13/06/2010 16:24

I doubt that would be the reason nbee84, as sellers really don't have the time to follow the progress of books in this way. If they were to note that a particular seller was doing this they would a. ignor the fact or think good on 'em, b. try and do the same (but they probably are anyway) or c. make sure that they list their books for the correct worth themselves or d. all of the above.
Your idea makes me smile though you don't work in a charity shop by any chance do you

RunforFun · 13/06/2010 17:04

Nope, am in UK and have always paid for things I have bought. Warnings ? well, I tried to sell a baby swim nappy about 2 years ago and it got pulled, but thats about as naughty as it gets

Yes, I quite often sell on the books when I have read them, usually from my book club, isnt that the point of ebay to sell stuff you no longer want ? ... but the books I'm talking about are only things you could easily buy off the shelf, for example I was trying to buy the boy in the striped pj's, hardly an item a top rated seller would track ?

I'm intrigued now. I might contact the seller... but wont I look a bit desperate ?

Does the seller get a message if a blocked bidder tries to make a bid ?

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 13/06/2010 17:30

no, but they can look and see if any blocked bidders have tried to bid. the list doesn't show the bidder's identity but does give the reason why.

are you registered on .co.uk or .com?

RunforFun · 14/06/2010 11:55

I'm on co.uk and been registered since 2006.

I've never left a negative in my life, nor even a neutral. I'm a really easy going buyer and seller - honest !

I've just checked my messages to see if I've ever asked them a question but no (unless I deleted itwhich is unlikely as I've a couple of hundred in there). I do recognise the sellers id as it reminded me of an actress' name, so I must have looked at or watched their items before, maybe they are just irritated I've watched and not bought, or its a case of mistaken identity !

Either way, its not worth stressing about, plenty more sellers in the sea !
