Really peed off this morning when I saw this note from e-bay:

We've noticed that you may not be meeting buyer expectations, as indicated by your detailed seller ratings (DSRs). We've identified the following areas you can work on to improve your performance on eBay:

Communicate promptly and professionally

By keeping in touch with your buyers and maintaining a positive, professional tone, you can resolve many concerns before they become problems.

  • Respond promptly to all questions or concerns.
  • Send updates to keep your buyers informed of the status of their purchase.

For God's sake. I said I'd post items within 3 working days (lots of bank holidays have just gone). I mark as item despatched on the feedback thing. What? am I supposed to make a note to every single person that its been despatched. Whats the point of that I find these e-mails cramming up my in-box. Many a time I have actually let people know - when I have time - Also my comminucation is great I also answer questions politely so I havent wound anyone up. I always put everyone elses comms done as brill as you cant mark them down when there has been no need to communicate.

In general I have been selling fantastic baby clothes for 99p plus cheap as chips 2nd class postage (some I slightly under priced). I describe items in vast detail.

What more do people want???? And now do I have to thank everyone who bids, send a mess on despatch, send a mess hoping youve received and any mess chasing feedback. What on items 99p. Time wise its not worth the hastle - assuming why so many people no longer bother with e-bay. Anyone help?

If I start selling again I will not use a standard note I will make up my own stating:

"Thank you for the purchase. I have despatched your item as described in the listing - within 1-3 business days 2nd class. I anticipate you will receive your parcel between x and y. Please feel free to leave feedback once you have received. If you are unhappy in anyway with the service you have received please contact me before leaving feedback".

On the listing I am going to into BOLD letters state that item will be despatched etc etc. Items will arrive between 5 - 7 working days If you bid then you agree on the service I am providing. If you are not happy to wait for this item do not bid. If you require this item in haste please request this on wining.

under 'action' there is a list of things you can do, one of them is 'email buyer' click on this and then you get to 'select an email' - winning buyer, payment reminder, dispatch etc.
at the side of that box is the link for managing your templates.

PurpleFrog · 25/05/2010 15:03

sixlostmonkeys - I am puzzled by your description as well. I have had a good look around. As you sure that option is available to private sellers?

sixlostmonkeys · 25/05/2010 17:21

yes

sixlostmonkeys · 25/05/2010 17:36

get to the page that shows the list of items sold or 'awaiting dispatch'.

it should have a bar that has all this on (all on one long row)

buyer email/ id, format, qty, sale price, total price, sale date, paid date, listed on, sold on, action

in the column under action is a box. It has a dead one of these >, which if you click on opens up the box and gives you a list of actions. One of the actions is called email buyer. click on it. On the page this takes you to you will have another box with a dead one of these >. Click on it and chose option "Dispatch notification" Click on it. Look at the template that is already there. change it if you like or simply click send.

On your travels through all thhis you will have noticed that you can manage these templates. Always worth doing.

Hope this helps. If not, put the kettle on and I'll pop round and show you

sixlostmonkeys - I'm sorry - I still can't see it. If I click on to the page that shows my "sold" items, I do not get such an extensive list of items in the bar as you do. But the last column gives me a possible next action and a pull-down menu labelled "more actions". One of these is "Contact buyer", not "email buyer". If I click on that it takes me to a page to send the buyer an eBay message titled "My Messages : Ask a question". There is no possibility to choose a template.

I have never seen ebay without it (sorry) how do you all communicate without this tool?

Ahh.... I am not mad after all!

Thanks. Looks like I should give it a go - and it works on Macs.

PurpleFrog · 26/05/2010 13:09

sixlostmonkeys - I have now subscribed to the free version of Selling Manager - and it looks great! I will now be able to do lots of things more quickly than before. It gives me all the info I need in one place. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

IDontReallyKnow · 26/05/2010 15:25

Thanks sixlostmonkeys, I too have now subscribed to Selling Manager and it looks great.
