How does online postage work then?

I have just sold a lot of items on ebay and now the thought of having to wait whilst all the lables are printed at the post office is filling me with dread.

How does online postage work? I have weighed the items but only on my not particularly accurate kitchen scales so how do I make sure I pay the correct postage?

Have looked on ebay and Royal Mails websites, but still can't really understand how it works.

you will still have to take them to the PO to get proof of postage, which takes up the same amount of time and the PO makes no money on it.
If you do get any of them wrong then the buyer will have to pay the difference plus £1

DONT DO ONLINE POSTAGE!!

I order by packages in sizes and weights before I take them. I then take out a bundle of say 'large letter up to 500g', quickly weigh them while the PO master watches and we then agree 5 X LL

Thanks, have just wrapped 20 parcels whilst repeating the mantra to myself. "I am paying for a service, I will not feel guilty for how long it takes to print the labels-nor for asking for proof of postage".

The thought of the £100 I made through selling the stuff should help get me through.

Hi, I am an e-bay power seller and I would definitely use paypal online postage. It links to your e-bay account. This is fast and is financed from the pay-pal balance you received for the item. The biggest benefit is that it prints the paypal registered address, I find this cuts down on lost post due to mistakes or careless handwriting, If there is an error in the address or postcode the system will tell you. When the lable is printed a proof of postage certificate is automatically printed, you get this stamped at the Post Office so this does not take long, slightly longer for recorded delivery You do need to weigh it properly but you can buy digital kitchen scales for less than a tenner. If you have large or heavy parcels try interparcel much cheaper than the Post Office and they colllect.
