I've used Ebay to buy stuff for ages but am just about to list some things for sale for the first time.

One of these items is a Phase Eight dress, bought 2 years ago for £160 and worn only once.

It's as good as new.

What would you expect something like this to go for? (ballpark figure)

And would you put a reserve on it and if so how much?

TIA

have you searched completed listings for similar?

smallishsheep · 07/05/2010 18:03

I would put a reserve on. I listed a Coast dress that is pretty much the same as yours and it only bid up to £22 Sad not to sell, but really at £22 I would be giving it away, the reserve was £40.
The weather affected my sale, I really believe that. If I listed it in a week where it was gorgeous it would be snapped up, so I am waiting for that.
It's worth paying for a subtitle, and use the words 'wedding, races, ball' as some people will be searching for that kind of thing at this time of year.
Good pictures are a must, the more detail the better

Thanks both

smallishsheep that's what I'm afraid of. It's a stunning dress and to see it go for a pittance would really bug me but I guess that's the nature of the beast that is Ebay.

Eldon - I'll have a good look again at other similar ones.

Why put a reserve on? Why not just start bidding at the lowest price you would accept?

To make it look the best, photograph it on a mannequin, or at least on a person. NEVER hanging on the back of the door Team accessories with it, and 'sell' the outfit IYSWIM...

smallishsheep · 07/05/2010 18:15

O no, I hate when people 'model'.
Mannequin a good bet tho if you have one. I tend to lay stuff out on our wooden floor

BunnyLebowski · 07/05/2010 18:16

I was being a wee bit stealthy - I've already listed the dress and put a £15 reserve on it. I'm now wondering whether that was the right thing to do.

I've posted a pic of it on my profile

I don't have a mannequin. Surely even my lumpy bod is better than hanging limply on a hanger in front of a door?

hubba hubba.
You're gorgeous. Keep the dress, it suits you.
And ouchy at the legs

EldonAve · 07/05/2010 18:19

I would have waited til tomorrow to list - it's a free listings weekend

smallishsheep · 07/05/2010 18:20

Is it eldon?
ooo I have a ton of stuff to list then...

tethersendisnigh · 07/05/2010 18:22

Agree, Bunny. Looks really good on you, you have a great figure! Put your face on the photo if you can bear to, you are really pretty , it will help sell the dress.

What did you start the bidding at?

Sorry smallish sheep, I think things look a lot worse laying flat.

BunnyLebowski · 07/05/2010 18:22

Thanks

I bought it in a panic to wear to a wedding when I was 6 months pregnant. It was the only thing that looked ok on me. DP nearly had a conniption when he saw the price of it .

I've lost weight since so it doesn't fit and it just isn't my style. It's a bit too classic whereas my style is wannabe Rockabilly Pin-Up .

Oh and bum Eldon I'm on an ebay learning curve baby!

Edit your listing to put the size in the title line

That way people will find it if they search Phase Eight Dress 16

BunnyLebowski · 07/05/2010 18:28

Have just tried Eldon and it won't let me revise the heading? Just the text of the listing

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 07/05/2010 18:33

Must be because I've had 2 bids?

OP posts:
EldonAve · 07/05/2010 19:14

I wouldn't worry too much - clearly people are finding it!
