new ebay rules and regulations

Looking at the ebay comminity Q and A board, it seems that alot of sellers like myself and many on here are being told by Ebay that they are going to have to register as a business seller or lose the right to sell at all. Business sellers have to follow adhere to distance selling regulations, display their address on all listings, and lose the free listing for items 99p or under.

Many of the people targeted are selling baby and children's clothes, second hand, clearly just their own stuff they are selling on, not in huge volume either. It seems like ebay have some complicated algorithm to seek out private sellers who they think are running a business, but they won't say what exactly is flagging these sellers up. I haven't recieved an email, but I've seen posts from people who sell a similar volume and type of goods to me being forced to register as a business, I think I'll forget the whole thing if they come after me, wondered if anyone on here had been contacted?

omg really? we have already been victim to some of the seller changes (them freezing our account for 2 months) great to see them shooting themselves in the foot again.

Not been contacted but someone told me it was over 100 items a month for sale.

Do you know what makes me laugh? It's the fact that it's us sellers who are ebays customers. It's the fees etc... that pay the friggin company. Wish they would quit it with all these freakin rules!!!

it goes against ebay ever stood for in the first place

it's over 100 items in 6 months I think because in my seller dashboard it said I was on 87 and I haven't sold anything since the middle of March and even then it was definitely not 87 items.

the 100 items is for the amount of free listings you can have in a month - any more than 100 you have to pay listing fees for.

things that can 'flag' it are lots of similar items, or lots of new items, or more than one of the same item eg. repeated new packs of bibs or a dozen new feeding bottles. Selling more than 100 same size baby girls clothes a month (for eg) would probably flag too.

If I was to sell my DS's corgi/matchbox cars on my private account I would no doubt be invited to be a business as he has 1000s of them!!! - yet I know that it isn't a business, it is a young boys own collection of toys he no longer needs, but to ebay...... business.
