Claiming a payment - is there something dodgy going on here?

Hello, I've never posted on here before but it's a helpful board and you might be able to help me!

I just sold 3 things on e-bay, and two of the buyers paid immediately and I posted the things. The third - I was waiting for payment. I got a message:

'hi I have sent my payment via pay pal but is
showing not claimed ! could you let me know what is happening is it just that you have not claimed it ? as am keen to get the cardi to take it on holidays!'

On my e-bay it says I'm 'awaiting payment' for 1 item. If I click on it, it has an option to 'claim payment' - but if I follow the link I get to paypal and there's no option there to claim it, and no record anywhere of the payment.
I said I wasn't sure what was going on and would try to fix it - she said maybe I hadn't registered properly with paypal. (I have; I've been using e-bay for years and the other items were paid for.)
I then sent a request for payment, and it's listed in paypal as pending, waiting for her to pay, but so far nothing doing.

Anyone know what's going on here? Is it dodgy?
(Also, buyer asked me if I would refund the difference if the postage was less than the set amount I had put (£5) - AIBU in thinking this is a bit annoying? I won't refund - I paid £2 for a roll of brown paper and posting won't be less than £3.50.)

Well as for postage she bid knowing the amount.

I have had payments like that in the past.......she hasn't paid by echeque has she? Although it will usually say that.

What exactly does it say on PP?

See now that's just what I thought on the postage! She's trying to get a boden cardigan at the lowest possible price!

Paypal just lists the last 3 payments - 2 received, 1 I made (to pay for postage).

So, on e-bay, it says 'I am awaiting payment for 1 item', which is standard. If I click on the item, under 'actions' it says 'claim your payment', and there's a drop down menu with 'claim your payment' as an option - that takes me to paypal. Usually, I get the standard paypal setup, with no record whatsoever of this allegedly unclaimed payment - but I've never had to actually claim a payment before.

Just now, however... I'm asked to sign up to paypal:

'You've received a PayPal payment. Complete this PayPal sign-up form to claim your funds.'

Bizarre.

What I've also done is sent a request for payment to the person, but as yet she's not paid, despite replying to all e-mails really swiftly.

Argh, looking at that paypal page, it's offering me the option to sign up, or if I've already got a paypal account, to upgrade - if I click on that it offers me a business account. Do I need that? I only sold 3 items and that's in the past 18 months!

Oh goawd, I don't know, I hate PP at times. I wish i could see it, tis so hard. if you just sign into PP not click through ebay, is there any payment there at all? Any email to say she has paid?

PurpleFrog · 03/02/2010 23:14

I think you do need to upgrade your account if you are selling on eBay. Mine is now a "Premier" account not a "Business" one. I think you have to upgrade to that. You will have to give them more info, and possibly get your account verified.

maxybrown · 03/02/2010 23:18

I had to get verified, was a right pain as i had got married in the meantime plus they also just decided I was a business even though i'm not, they were useless. Will cancel my old PP account soon and start afresh!

TediBersMorRad · 04/02/2010 10:32

Curiouser and curiouser. I clicked onto PP to upgrade, and it turns out I'm already with a Premier account. There's no way I need a business one, surely?

Anyhow, the buyer still hasn't paid - I sent a request for payment - which is annoying, because that would solve it. No communication either.

odd, very very odd. have you contacted them to say there is no record of them paying. Is your email address typed properly in their payment thingy majig........i did that once

TediBersMorRad · 10/02/2010 12:34

Finally solved the problem after contacting paypal...
Turns out e-bay for some totally unknown reason decided to list a dead e-mail address from 6 years ago as my paypal e-mail. Don't even begin to ask me why. But it won't happen again, hopefully - although I would like to work out why this was resurrected!
