Is this shill bidding?

I have bid on a BNIB Babyliss curling wand, starting price of 99p, my highest bid was £5.

Seller has 6 of these listed just now and I just logged on now to see my bid is up to maximum when there are others available for 99p! Bidder 2 has 100% activity with this seller, 7 bids on 3 items, and has only been registered for 30 days, also zero feedback

I have emailed ebay but automatic reply says it may take 24-48 hours to respond. Listing ends in 17 hours! Should I cancel or wait?

If you were willing to pay £5 (and don't think you'll get it cheaper elsewhere) then keep your bid in, but don't pay until you've heard back from ebay.

If you think you'll get it cheaper from a different seller than cancel your bid.

They are £25 retail so it is still great value! Seller still has some with a starting bid of 99p and no bids, I didn't realise this until after I had placed max bid so I feel a bit ripped off! I don't understand why someone else would try and outbid me when others were available?

I don't know what ebay will do, you may still have to pay what you bid, or they may be kicked off and you might not get it at all, I have no idea, it just seems sensible to not pay until you've heard back.

Maybe if the other bidder is new they don't realise there are other items the same at a lower price. I have had multiple bids on one item when there are other items the same with no bids on.

Thanks mogs0, there was something strange going on so I let the one I bid on go to higher bidder. Still not heard back from ebay!
