Why do sellers opt to hide page-view counter?

Am I silly to keep mine on display?

I hide mine - but I don't know the answer
maybe...... if you land on a listing and it has had loads of views but no bids you think hmmm what is putting people off? I'd better not bother...
or maybe...... if it has had loads of views you would think hmmm, I bet loads of people will bid right at the end and so it won't be a bargain for me so I'd better not bother....

although I hide mine I do prefer it when others show theirs! (for research) eg- if I book I wish to list is already on, and maybe has been re-listed a few times, yet page views only show 2 or 3 then I come to the conclusion that no-one is looking for that book.
