I recently bought a cardigan which had a minimal decription - i.e. basically said the same as the title. There wasn't really time to ask questions and it was just the colour an size I wanted.

The seller had 100% feedback and seemed OK so I went for it and put in a bid and won the item.

On receiving the cardi, it smells very smokey (can't be helped if seller is a smoker I guess but I am not and it's not nice). The cardigan is also rather bobbled.

I'm not sure what feedback to leave, I am always reluctant to leave negative in cases where the item at least turns up, and is not a complete disaster.

Am considering leaving positive FB and saying something like 'well used item, smelt quite smokey but hopefully will be ok after a wash' - does this sound fair?

contact the seller with any issues before thinking about feedback

Hmm - should I be expecting a refund? Not sure what to expect to gain by contacting - not had this situation before.

what do you want? You have to decdie what you want them to do really before you contact them. Maybe you could let them know the feedback you are thinking about leaving and they may cme back with an offer? Tbh it didn't say from a smoke free home though.

if you don't feel you can gain from contacting them then really you must be satisfied - therefor feedback should reflect this.
If the item is bobbled and more used than indicated then you can explain it's not quite as described and you would like to either return for a full refund or receive a partial refund - feedback should reflect how they deal with your communication to them.

If there was no description of condition then really it's probably best to put it down to experience ie, not impulse buy until you have asked questions

I just want to let other ebayers know their item may smell smokey really.

If they offered a refund fair enough, but TBH if smell goes after a wash I'm not that picky.

I just don't want to leave "fab all is lovely" type FB when I am slightly put off by smell.

(If I was a smoker I guess I would probably launder all items and pack straight away before sending.)

so sixlostmonkeys, would it be fair to leave positive and just say item smelt a bit smokey?

ah, you are probably asking the wrong person such a question - one of pet hates being the obsession with cigarette smoke.
So I'd say; only put that if you would put "item smelt a bit perfumy/washing powdery/foody/fresh airy/arm pitty (should any of those be the case of course)
