is there any demand for used kids shoes on ebay ?

I have kept every pair of shoes my boys have owned to date, complete with original boxes. Only their sandals have been worn by more than one child and they were then binned at the end of summer ! There's about 20 pairs, as I say, in their original boxes.

I really don't know why I kept them all but the shoes just seemed too good to bin but I have come to my senses and am now having a massive clearout.

I've rung a couple of charity shops to see if they were interested but they were a bit negative about childrens shoes needing to be fitted etc and therefore there being very little demand for them.

They are all good makes and mostly the harder to get wider fittings. Yes they've been worn, some show little signs of wear and tear some more than others (none of them have any holes or stitching unravelling). They would be excellent for outdoor play or nursery days where they come home coated in playdough or glue and glitter.

I thought I might list them on ebay and donate any profits to a good cause but I've just searched and can't see any bids on any smaller size range boys shoes.

Is there any demand for them anywhere or is it a bad time of year on ebay ?

I have bought children's shoes on ebay, but not worn ones that are only 'good enough for nursery', only
a) barely-fitted party ones that have obv been worn for two parties and dd will wear to two more before outgrowing them (eg silver sparkly Next ones £2)
and b) expensive ones in a size & brand I know will fit her, that have obv been worn for two parties and dd will wear every day till she outgrows them (eg pink metallic leopard-print Primigi mary-janes £7)

If you cant; be arsed to ebay them then Clarks take donations of outgrown shoes which (iirc) are sent to developing countries.

I sold a barely-worn pair of Startries on Ebay a year or so back.

abride · 19/01/2010 15:39

Startrites.

MrsBadger · 19/01/2010 15:41

exaclty - I'd have bought said barely-worn Startrites (if dd had Startrite-shaped feet ) but not properly worn ones, iyswim.

brimfull · 19/01/2010 15:47

I would buy barely worn in specific size I needed

At our recycling centre there is a charity bank specifically for collecting pairs of decent shoes for donation to 3rd world organisations. Maybe worth checking if your recycling centre has the same.

I have sold barely worn Clark's/Startrite and there does seem to be others listing them also. May be worth listing at a £0.99 start to avoid listing fees, that way you're not out of pocket if they don't sell?

There is definitely a demand, at least from me I buy almost all dd1's shoes from Ebay, having been into Clarks to get her measured first.... probably 4 out of every 5 pairs. I don't see the point in paying £30 for a pair of trainers that will be scuffed beyond all belief at nursery.

I would say that the condition of the shoes is overstated by sellers maybe 50% of the time based on what I buy

I am also selling some too at the moment which dd1 only wore twice (from new).

Boxed certainly adds a premium to the price as well as making easier to wrap.
Should do well if not very worn.

I buy all of DS's wellies from ebay and would possibly buy him other shoes off ebay if they where in good condition and just for messing around in.

Thanks for all your replies, I'm going to try ebaying the really good condition ones, starting at 99p and donate the proceeds to charity and I will definately check out our local recycling centre for the rest.

overmydeadbody I too buy all our wellies from ebay !
