Paying cash on collection. Is it OK?

I'm sure I remember hearing about a problem when someone paid cash on collection but I can't remember what it was.

Is it OK/safe to pay in cash when collecting an item?

I usually accept cash on collection.
But was made aware of a scam (from a thread on here) where the buyer pays through pay pal and collects the item but then files a complaint with ebay to say they never recieved the item. Therefore as you have no proof of the collected you then have to refund them and they still get the item.
But not sure of any cash on collection scams.

I have only paid cash and collected an item once but the seller was happy to write out a receipt and sign it. Not sure how water tight it would be in the event of a dispute though.

no use at all Im afraid. Paypal only accept a trackable postal service as proof
