How long does buyer have to pay me before i make second chance offer?

I would love some advice on this one please. never had any problems on ebay before so this is a first for me.

My buyer won the auction on saturday night which was stated to be paypal payment only. He then contacted me to say he would pay cash on collection. I said no, am not prepared to breach ebay rules (and open myself up to doorstep haggling etc) so paypal please. He said he would pay by paypal but has not done so yet. Also not now returning my emails. Am annoyed as wanted item out of my house before xmas!

When can I decide to sack off this buyer and make a second chance offer to the next highest bidder? Also if i sack off the buyer can he leave me negative feedback for doing so?

TIA!!

I think you are being a tad unreasonable to be honest. I've sold items many times and buyers don't haggle on the door step. If he lives down the road, he probably doesn't want to pay postage costs when he could easily collect.

You can refuse to sell to him, but you are very likely to get negative.

Also, COC isn't against eBay rules, and it saves you on Paypal fees too.

The item is collection only. I would also prefer the money in paypal as cash in hand is likely to result in it getting frittered in Starbucks etc...

I am sure i have seen it stated on ebay that you should never agree to accept cash on doorstep. Why wouldn't someone want to pay by paypal? Am not sure why this is unreasonable, especially when auction was stated to be paypal only.

I just really want the item gone and out of the way.

Thanks Hanna, that's helpful. I think I will do that (albeit that I am expecting the email containing the deadline to be ignored!).

Also meant to ask, will my original buyer be able to leave me bad feedback in circs when payment was never made and sale not concluded?

if a buyer pays with paypal and then collects he can then go home and file an item not received and as you can't prove to paypal that he has collected the item he will be refunded. cash on collection is the best way.

sixlostmonkeys · 15/12/2009 18:10

if you really don't want this buyer then you will have file a mutual withdraw and hope he completes his bit. If he doesn't and you sell to someone else he is still potentially your buyer

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 15/12/2009 18:10

That's interesting six, I had not thought of it like that. I might have to ask buyers to smile for my camera phone whilst holding item!

On a serious note, I have 4 other buyers coming tonight. I will get them all to sign for collection. Thanks, six, for raising that point.

unfortunately paypal only accept a tracking number as proof

sixlostmonkeys · 15/12/2009 18:16

the grin was for the photo btw.

on the serious note you could potentially have 4 buyers go home and get their money back. Really, cash on collection is the best in these situations (and no paypal fees either)

I'd advise you to send all these 4 buyers a receipt in the post tomorrow using recorded delivery. Don't tell them you will be doing this. This way if they try to pull a fast one you will have a tracking number to give to paypal

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 15/12/2009 18:17

So is there nothing I can do then? They have already all paid by paypal. Why does ebay not tell you this stuff!??

So you think sign on collection is a bad idea? (i am in your hands here, six )

Not bad idea It's just pointless really. the only hope you have is the sending of a receipt by rec del

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 15/12/2009 18:25

Will send reciept then, thanks for the advice
