I am a massive idiot (selling question)

I listed my first item on ebay on Friday and I was all proud of myself for not screwing it up. The item already has 4 people watching it and has a bid of £5.00. I was really pleased since I only expected to get a few pounds and there are still nearly 5 days to go.

Then I found out the item (lets say it's a book) is going for £80 on Amazon and I've stuck it on ebay with no reserve!! Is there anything I can do, can I add a buy it now option?

I feel like such an idiot, it just never occurred to me that it would be worth anything, I was just getting rid of some junk to get some pocket money for DD. I don't mind if it doesn't go for £80 but it'd be nice to get more than £5

Thanks in advance!

Check their Help section, but I'm fairly sure you can revise listings if you need to.

I dont think you can add a Buy It Now price on now you have bidders.

wonka · 07/12/2009 00:03

You can put a reserve on it tho or cancell the listing.

CarGirl · 07/12/2009 00:07

I wouldn't worry if you've listed it correctly ie the title is correct then it really should go for around what is is worth 2nd hand.

madmissy · 07/12/2009 00:22

I wouldn't worry. You get less bidders with a reserve. With a bid already and watchers and ages left its good sign. You will be surprised how high some things go for

ILoveChocolateKnickers · 07/12/2009 07:31

Amazon is not really a good indication. Has it actually sold on amazon for that price? People put all sorts of silly prices on ther books over there, its not really a good indicator of what its actually worth.

If its worth £80, then thats what it will fetch on ebay.

Agree with the others. I have some bonkers mad French dictionary thing which they made us buy at uni and on Amazon it's there for about £120. Mine is also on Amazon for £40 and has been for the past 3 yrs!

sweetnitanitro · 07/12/2009 09:32

Thanks everyone! I feel better now. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw how much it was for sale for on Amazon but I guess it's only worth what someone will pay for it Still 4 days to go so it might go up yet!

If you have bids already with 4 days to go you are doign well . Many items don't get any bids until the last hour or so.

I'm pretty sure it will go up.

currycrazy · 07/12/2009 09:43

having no reserve is a great way of getting people to watch your item and when you start watching something you get it into your head that you want it so the bidding tends to go mad
my DP uses this technique all the time and has always got what he wanted or more for an item.He had something that was worth approx 150 quid on there no reserve,99p start.i thought he was mad! lots of people seemed to watch but not many bid.....until id say the last couple of hours then it went mad and he got 160quid.

if it gets very close to the selling time and noone is bidding you can pull the item so dont worry

good luck!
